Movement only on one side

I am only experiencing movement on my right side mid to high. I don't think I have ever felt movent on the left side or not that I can remember anyway. I have been talking to my OB but she just keeps telling me everything is normal . Naturally I am a worrier so every little thing makes me nervous. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

Re: Movement only on one side

  • Do you have a partial anterior placenta? I do and it covers most of my left side so up until about 28ish weeks I only ever felt movement on my right side. Now that I am 31 weeks I occassionally will feel a kick or punch on my left but it is very muted.

  • Most of my baby's movement has been on the right side. I know she started out low and on my right and as she's grown, most of her kicks are still on the right. At my last ultrasound, we were able to see that her head was on my left, butt down, legs up on the right near my ribs. So it makes sense that the big kicks are on the right and her little punches are much lower and on the left. She's not much of a puncher. I know babies flip and roll but I have a feeling my baby is going to sit on her butt for awhile longer.

  • With DS and this little girl everything I feel is on my right side. I wouldn't worry as long as you are feeling movement.

  • I just brought this up to my doctor and he acted like it wasn't normal but left me with "everything looks good" right after. I only feel my LO on the left side though and I am 29 weeks. So he suggested the old, lay on your left side and drink juice trick, which makes no sense to me because I feel her on the left so laying on that side does nothing. I constantly worried about it as well. Hopefully they start moving on both sides soon!
  • Trust your doc. Like PP mentioned, it could be your placenta muffling baby's movements...or just the way he/she is positioned. As long as you keep feeling movement, you're good.

  • I usually only feel my little guy on the right side, but that's where he likes to hang out plus I have an anterior placenta so it doesn't surprise me.
  • As far as I know I don't have an anterior placenta. I assume they would have told me that if I do? They found a heart beat at my last appt mid way down on the right side so idk if that is an indicator of him being head down? I have no clue how to tell between a punch or a kick? I assume the kicks are a little stronger then the punches? This is my first so it's all so new to me. Thanks for helping to ease my mind a bit :)

They probably wouldn't have told you as it doesn't really matter. They only reason I know mine is anterior is because I specifically asked, so just because they haven't told you doesn't mean you don't have one.

Okay thanks. I think I may ask them at my next appt just for some piece of mind, but I'm glad that it doesn't affect anything else.

Yup, I only know I have one because I saw it typed on the screen when my dr was going over my u/s with me a few days after my scan, she never mentioned it. I also only felt movement on the right side until around 28 weeks

I have only felt mine on the right side, so I was curious and tried "baby mapping" and sure enough, all of my squiggles and such pretty much drew a picture of a baby shape sitting on the right side of me.  I double checked with my midwife at my appointment last week and she felt around and said baby was head up just chillin on the right side.  Unfortunately, this past weekend, I think baby must have flipped to head down because the pressure on my pelvis went from very little to extreme.  But yes...I think it's totally normal from what my midwife has said.

Ditto what these ladies have said. I happened to see it typed on the screen at my NT scan and the ultrasound tech mentioned it at my anatomy scan, but my doctor has never said anything. I feel movement on the left side and middle, hardly ever on the right side.

I'm sorry you're dealing with the extra pressure, not fun at all but HORAY for no longer having baby breech!!!!
Agreed!! My first was head down and low for almost the entire 3rd tri.... so I totally get how uncomfortable it is.... but that's a GOOD position for baby to be in. All ready for delivery!
  • I would guess anterior placenta or positioning as well, and like pp said, the only reason I even know I have anterior is because I switched doctors and read all my medical records. Anyway, again like pp said, as long as you're feeling movement, relax and trust your doctor.

  • I asked my dr's nurse and she said its most likely the baby's position. I asked her about an anterior placenta and she said the ultrasound tech would have mentioned it to me at my last ultrasound if that was the case. It just sucks cause I am a ftm and I have a lot of questions about what's normal and what isn't but I always feel like I'm bothering them when I call and ask or like I'm getting brushed off rather than a full explanation. I know they are busy and have a lot of other people in the office but it would be nice to have someone explain why this is normal vs abnormal.

Don't ever feel bad or like a burden for calling your doctor's office. That is why they have jobs. I know it feels like they're too busy sometimes, but I think they would rather have you call and be reassured that there's not problem than if you didn't call and something bad happens. And if you don't fully understand something, tell them! Ask them specific questions for more in depth answers. AND, if they seem too busy, ask them if there is a better time to call or if they could call you back when they get a moment.

My baby kicks mostly on my left side until the past week (28 weeks). I have started feeling a few jabs above my belly button as well as on both sides of my stomach. I have also started to feel baby pressing against my stomach. I get these hard spots and if you touch them i can feel LO move away.
This has been happening to me for the first time lately, and it's so cool and exciting! When I first got pregnant, I thought it would just be creepy and weird, but it's actually really neat!

  • I try to feel what's what from the outside but I can't tell body parts. I don't find he moves at all when I push on my belly. I'll be 29 weeks on Thursday. I feel most movement when I am laying down either in the morning or at night. I can see the movements from the outside of my stomach and that's pretty neat
  • I didn't feel any movement on my left side until the past week (I'm 31 weeks along), but most movement is definitely still throughout my right side.  I have a posterior placenta so that wasn't the problem of not feeling him on the right.  At my 28 week ultrasound the tech said it made sense that most of the movement was on the right based on how he was laying (head down, facing my spine).  I feel most of his weight on my right side, but for some reason only my left rib cage hurts.  Makes no sense!

  • I have an anterior placenta & have never felt movement on the right- 30 weeks now. Ultrasound tech only mentioned the placenta after i said something i said relating to feeling movement.
  • I'm glad to know it isn't just me. I guess we all have babes who are comfy and don't feel like switching sides.
