Dress me for Disney

We are going to Disney World in mid-Oct. What should I wear? I currently have two pairs of casual capris and several very similar tshirts. I want to buy some maxi dresses. Will those be weird to wear on rides? If I buy the dresses, what the heck kind of shoes will I wear? Help me...with links too!

ETA. I'm fat, so make those links plus sized!

Re: Dress me for Disney

  • Wear whatever is comfortable because you will do a lot of walking.

We went the third week of Oct and I wore a lot of shorts and tanks and of course comfortable shoes.  Highs in the low to mid 80's and lows in the high to mid 60's.

I haven't worn shorts in probably ten years! Nobody wants to see all that!

  • Shorts and tanks, socks and sneakers! I'm plus sized and have no problem rocking the Bermuda length short all summer long. I find at that length they don't ride up and are quite comfy. Old navy has some shorts in a lighter fabric that are pretty fabulous and reasonably priced. We are going to disney in October as well.

Last time we went to Disney was our honeymoon in Oct 2012. It was hot as fuck during the day and cooled down to 70-75 at night.

  • Linen pants if you aren't comfortable in shorts. I find them cooler than most capris because they breathe. Sneakers. I'd just say no to the dresses.

  • I live in Orlando. October is still pretty freaking hot. Some years it's mid 80s, other years it's mid to upper 70s. Maxi dresses are probably super comfy...I'm a fat chick too and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Old Navy's plus sized maxi dresses. I have this one and it's my favorite:

Otherwise, shorts, capris, short sleeves, etc. If you wear a tank maybe bring a cami to put over it in the evening when it cools off (a bit).

As for shoes...go for comfort. Sneakers or comfy flats. TONS of walking/standing/waiting in line to be done at Disney.

    Have fun!!

I wore a maxi dress on a plane, and it was comfy and good for traveling, but I wouldn't wear it at Disney. The one I have sometimes drags the ground or gets caught on things, and that wouldn't be good for walking all around and riding rides.

I would do capris or lightweight pants, comfy shoes, and a comfy top. Maybe layers because I am a freak who thinks 75 degrees at night is chilly.

I Googled it, and of course it's highly controversial and varies, but it looks like the average person walks about 6 miles a day at Disney, so just wear something that will be comfortable to walk in all day long.

Not white shorts. I wore white shorts and spilled a whole tray of coffee on myself like a dumbass and then had to go the whole day at Disney in coffee-stained white shorts. :)

I will look into the Bermuda shorts. One of the capris I have are that light crunchy material and they go just below the knee. I might try to find another pair of those too.

I might still try to get two dresses, maybe for dinner or our Downtown Disney/Halloween party day. I'm tall, so I'm not worried about the length.

I like both sandals that you guys posted. Thanks for the help!

  • Now that I'm on a computer I can share the link for my shorts, here they are: click here.

Old Navy is great for plus sized casual clothes, because they usually have some sort of free shipping offer and returns by mail are free.

I am really excited for vacation and to take the kids there, but the clothing situation and riding rides makes me a little nervous. I have a hard time buying clothes for myself.

  • You couldn't pay me to wear anything longer than Bermuda shorts at Disney

I just realized I only own one pair of shorts and am doing this in August.  *stars thread*
If you're going in August, GET SHORTS. August is the hottest month of the year here. I'm dreading it.

OMG, last night I tried on a few pairs on these shorts you guys speak of. It was so awful.

  • Selfie just did a post on this. Yes, I still read her god-awful blog. Mostly so I can follow along on GOMI. You will find it completely useless and filled with affliate links.

The sad part of the Selfie Disney post is that I saw it and thought...oh, this could be helpful. Not so much.

  • @TheBub She is pretty much the worst person alive but I can't quit her. I miss her comments though. I haven't registered for a GOMI account but I have thought about it so many times.  We are going to Disney the last week of January and I am hoping for a Selfie siting in her native habitat. It could happen since it is well-known they go to the park during low season.

I confessed to my friend that I hoped to see her there too! Would you ask her to take a picture with you?
