Maybe it would help DS STTN since some of you posted that ever since doing it, your LO was able to put him/herself back to sleep. If your LO often falls asleep while nursing and you did Ferber, how did you make that work? As I replied to that post, when DS falls asleep nursing, I transfer him to the crib..but that goes against the idea of putting them in their crib while they are still awake.
TIA!

I believe you wouldn't let LO fall asleep during nursing. We FF And she would fall asleep on her bottle and we simply kept her awake (by twisting the bottle) when she wanted to fall asleep. Then the transfer to the crib is drowsy but awake.
I moved when I was feeding him in his bedtime routine. I used to feed him last. Now it's nursing, bath, jam jams, book, and bed. It only took him a day for him to adjust and now it works great!
Were your LOs STTN when you started Ferber? If not, how many hours did you do Ferber for versus considering it the morning and nursing them? DD STTN 12-13 hours before I did Ferber with her so it was no issue but with DS, maybe I only do Ferber if he wakes up before a 6 hour stretch?
For example, say bedtime is 9 pm, I assume if they wake up before 2 am or so, you'd do Ferber..but what if they go until 4 am on their own? You obviously don't want to start your day at 4 am, but since they went 7 hours, would you feed them..or just do Ferber until they go back down?

I think this is the part of the method where you need to do what you feel is right for your child and trust your intuition. In general, if S wakes up after between 1am-4am I will go feed him. If he wakes up before 1am I will let him get himself back to sleep because I know he does not really need to eat yet. If he wakes up between 4-5am I will see if he gets himself back to sleep, which he usually does.
In the book, Ferber says that if the baby wakes up after 5am you should get up and get started with your day - the likelihood of him going back to sleep is slim. This happened a few times for us in the beginning, but he now regularly wakes up between 6:15-6:45.
That being said, the other night he woke up at 11pm and was having a really hard time falling back to sleep. He's been doing great so I knew he must need me for something. I went in to feed him and then he slept the rest of the night through. It was earlier than usual but I think you need to be flexible and just go with your gut.
LO was STTN when we Ferberized. We really just needed help with getting her down. She usually wakes up once or twice in the middle of the night and doesn't cry, just whines and tosses around a little. We let that go and she falls back asleep. If she cries we will wait the first 10-15 min and then assume that she's hungry or having teething pains and we will take care of it. Also we listen to the type of cry. She has a tired kind of "whining" cry and a something is wrong cry. Obviously for that one we're in there right away. Honestly that's only happened once or twice. If she woke up at 4am I would try act like it was a middle of the night wake up.
Re: Ferber post got me thinking..

Hope that helps! Good luck!
