Doctor's?

Do you guys have male or female OB dr's? in the past i have always had female dr's. but i just switched insurances and they assigned me a male dr. i was thinking about switching to a female but i dont know if its even worth my trouble if the doc if nice.

Re: Doctor's?

  • I've had both male and female docs in the past, although my current OB is a woman. I don't notice any difference in care.
  • I always had a male doctor. I found no problem with them. usually i find them to be quite gentle and caring. but again that is my experience. if you are sincerely more comfortable with a female, then i say switch. its all about your comfort

  • I have a female OBGYN.

I would find a doctor you are comfortable with - that's the most important thing. If you would be more comfortable with a female, then switch.

  • I've always had female GYNs because for some odd reason I thought I might feel uncomfortable with a male GYN.  And for some other odd reason, now that I'm pg, I feel like having a male OB would be fine.  I don't know why I'm separating the OBs from the GYNs and saying that having a male would be fine for one and not the other because they're looking in (up) the same area but for some reason it's still different to me, lol.  But my new OB is a female, too.  I would just say if you're comfortable enough, see if you really like him first before you switch!

  • My DH and FIL are both physicians and they personally think men are better OB's.  They says they are more compassionate because they have never actually felt the pains of labor and are more gentle overall.  I have never seen a man for GYN stuff, but I am choosing a man for OB because of their input.
  • I've had both. My favorite GYN ever was a female, but she quit practicing. My mom's favorite OB/GYN was a male who delivered my sister and I. She said she felt he was more receptive to her being in pain, whereas she had women doctors dismiss her cramps and things as normal.?
  • i think i just feel more comfortable with a woman b/c thats what ive always been used to since ive never had a male doc. i have my first appt. on tues. so i might just see how comfortable i feel when i meet him and then go from there. thanks for the advice!

  • I used to see a man at my office, but since I work there, I was able to switch to whoever I wanted. The gal I picked just got done having her 4th DC, so it makes me comfortable because not only has she gone thru this, but recently too!
