If you are reading this and are tall/thin/willowy except for an adorable baby bump and look fantastic in your maternity wear, you may just want to skip to the next post, you lucky minx you!
If you are on the shorter side, the rounder side, dare I say, the plumper side, and are finding that most maternity clothes are making you look like a lumpy sack of potatoes, come on in. You are my people.
Anyhow, I'm short (5'3), chubbed out (195 pounds currently) and have been scouring stores looking for cheap, stretchy clothes (maternity or otherwise) that I could wear while I slowly morph into Shamu. I bought two pairs of pregnancy capris at Kohl's, and they are nice, but $75 for two pairs of pants is bullshit for me, since they're the paneled ones and when will I wear them again (my uterus should hopefully get the memo that it's ancient after this kid is born).
So I am in Walmart, the Home of Clothing For the Girl With Something More (i.e., elastic waistbands galore!), and found these "halter shirts" in a ton of different colors and styles. They cost like $4.88 each. At first I thought they were skirts, and was all "Wooooo!" and then realized they were halter tops. But they're long enough and stretchy enough that I decided "Screw it, I'm going to try it on as a skirt"--and it looked GREAT! Kind of like a pencil skirt. An added bonus: Walmart puts a swath of material in them to act as a "bra" but since the skirts are cheap as hell, it isn't sewed in. So what I do, is unfold the "bra" part up over my stomach, and it's just like a pregnancy panel. Talk about awesome, comfyness, and reasonable cuteness, all for $4.88 (or $4.99, but I am pretty sure it's $4.88) apiece.
So, if you are short in stature, short on cash, and short on thinness and want a cute "skirt" for the price of a latte, head to Walmart and look on the wall partitions and you should find these bad boys. HOORAY!!!!

Re: PSA: Cheapo "pregnancy skirts" for the short and ... er... stout mom to be!
Just my kind of post. I've taken to trying the belly band from Motherhood to keep all my pants up and it sucks. I'm too big for a regular sized one and too small for the plus sized one. A skirt shirt sounds like it should do the trick!!
I just bought the comfiest shorts for laying around at home from Wally. They were in the PJ section, grey with a grey and white striped tie. Think they had pink too.

I have been having great luck at H & M lately. I was there today and they are having a huge sale. Everything I bought was marked down to $5! They had a lot of snap/button down shirts that will be great for nursing also.
