Trying to Get Pregnant

Hello! I guess t's time for an into =)

Hi my name is Jessi and I've been 'lurking' on here for months now. I'm 24 years old with a 4 year old daughter. My fiance(27) and I have been ttc for 8 months now. The disappointment that it hasn't happened yet has really got me depressed but I know sometimes these things take time unfortunately. Does anyone have tips on how to deal with the depression? My fiance has suggested that we try to take a break from ttc especially after I had a miscarriage back in October. I do have another question for you ladies though, I have been having very irregular periods fr the past couple months, is there a way to naturally regulate your periods or is birth control the only way? I don't know much about any fertility treatments but I've started to do research on them. I'm just hoping it doesn't get to that point. Anyways, thanks for reading and I hope to get some feedback soon.

    Hi!

I don't have any advice for you, just wanted to say welcome!

  • Welcome, sorry you are feeling down.  Do you chart your cycles, temperature? cf? cp, use opk's?

What do you mean your cycles are irregular?  Did you read the Newbie blog at the top of the board?  There are great suggestions on learning about your cycle.  Sometimes being uninformed can lead to frustrations that really don't exist.

I'd suggest reading the blog, reading Toni Weschler's Taking Charge Of Your Fertility, start charting your bbt and other secondary fertility signs- many here use fertilityfriend as a great tool!

    Best wishes

  • Welcome! It can take up to one year for a healthy couple under the age of 35 to conceive. I know it's hard to wait but 8 months isn't cause to worry yet. Have you started charting your BBT? That will give you tons of info on your cycles. Also, the newbie thread at the top will give you a bunch of helpful information. Sorry about your loss in October :(

Welcome. All this ^ is good information. Also remember there is only a 20% chance each cycle you will conceive and it can take up to a year for a couple with no fertility problems to conceive.

  • Hi!

TTC can be very stressful on a relationship.  This is true whether it takes 1 month or 100 months.  Are you trying to plan a wedding right now too?  Because that's another really big stressor for both you and your relationship. Put the two together and I can understand why you're depressed!  Many people feel that anxiety and depression are two sides of the same coin, they just manifest differently.  And you may have a lot on your plate right now.

As far as the irregular periods, I second the request for more information.  What does irregular mean?  They vary in length?  You don't get them every month or two?  Stress can certainly affect the timing of a cycle, but if you're not temping, it's hard to say there's anything wrong.

  • Welcome!  I second signing up for Fertility Friend and getting to know your body.  As for the depression, maybe talking to a therapist or including exercise into your daily routine could help.

  • Thank you all for the advice! Yes I do use fertility friend, Monitor CF, and take BBT every morning. With me saying that my periods are irregular i meant that my cycles can last anywhere from 21 days to my most recent 106 days but most stay between 52-86 days. kelley72 I've never used an opk and while I do temp every morning I don't really understand. I can tell when ovulation occurs(temp spike) but is that what you go by to see if you're late or is there another temperature difference. But definitely correct me if I'm wrong on that statement please. As for the blog, I'll definitely get to reading, I may also reread the newbie blog too.
