How early is too early?

I'll be 10 weeks tomorrow and today at my check up the doctor could not find the heartbeat with her Doppler. She said it's just too early. We did see it on an ultrasound at 6 weeks but now I'm concerned. This is my first. When did everyone else pick it up?

My MW picked it up on the doppler at 12 weeks. I think 10 is too early for a doppler in most cases.

Mine picked it up at exactly 10 weeks but said often you have to be further along

Lots of places to hide at 10 weeks. Mine hid at 10 weeks and the 14 week one took 20 minutes to find.

I saw an ob on my 7 week and she saw the heart beat and we heard it too. But every baby is different. Always keep that in mind im sure baby is doing fine.

My dr couldn't find the HB with DS2 until after after 13 weeks. That's pretty normal.

Finding the hb with Doppler before 12wks can be really tricky just because the heart's still quite small and the baby can be moving a lot so you have to get the wand in just the right spot. In a few weeks you should hopefully havean easier time hearing the heartbeat with the Doppler.

Seeing it on an ultrasound and turning up the volume to listen to a computerized emulation of a heart beat is not the same thing as hearing it on a doppler. 

Most people don't realize nor care, but when your doctor or u/s tech turns up the volume on the u/s machine, it's not the actual heart beat you're hearing. Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I just don't want someone feeling bad or worried that their doctor couldn't heartbeat on a doppler that early...... because it's impossible.

My MW said she won't try to use the Doppler until my next appointment when I'll be 13 weeks 3 days. She said they usually don't even try until after 12 weeks.
