Leap #2: let's compare notes

DD is 8 weeks today. Basically in the throws of Leap 2. However she's also cranky 98% of the time anyways. Let's compare what we are experiencing shall we:

Sleep-Daytime sleep is pretty much non existent. Today she wouldn't even sleep being held. 15 minute car naps here and there. Nighttime sleep is not yet affected though getting her down tonight has been a challenge.

Eating-basically she sucks at it. On and off my nipple constantly. Falling asleep for seconds at the nipple therefore not eating. Same behavior if bottle feeding. I have no idea if she's getting enough.

Temperament-I'm not liking it. Super gassy. Pissed at life. Doesn't want put down or do anything. Even if I talk to her...she would flip me off if she had the dexterity.

Share your experience.

  • This but opposite sleeping all day and not at all from 530pm until 1 or 2 am...basically going on since Monday... DD will be 9 weeks Friday...kill me now. We've also been trying to establish a night time routine...it's not going well to say the least...

  • Wow. Are you describing your kid or MY kid?? This is my daughter, only she's six weeks old. Please tell me she's an early leaper? I'm praying this doesn't last for two more weeks. Especially the feeding...it's insane.

  • My son has been hitting leaps early even accounting for the fact that he was 2 weeks late. He skipped leap 1 totally and just had a bit of it from the get go. Within a day or so of his "leap 2" abilities popping up, leap 3 things happened as well.

At this point I don't know what to chalk up to a leap and what to chalk up to child weirdness. I don't share this to "brag", especially since my son seems to be behind with motor skills, just that I honestly don't know if his moods are leap related because his leaps are not following along the described progression.
  • Do you guys time leaps from due date or birth date?
  • Yes DDs are to her bday not due date.

  • Huh.  I am totally ignorant of leaps.  My LO is also 8 weeks and I have noticed almost no difference.  Maybe a little hungrier?  She sleeps from 10:30 til about 5:30 or 6, then takes a couple long naps in the morning, then a couple really short naps in the afternoon.    Pretty much awake and fairly feisty from 4-10 (though she is asleep now at 8:30PM?  The heck? I chalk that up to me going out with a friend and leaving her with Dad...it figures.)

@csmily51 same here. Last night she was up from 10pm - 4am. She then slept until 11am after she ate at 4. It's looking like a repeat of last night :(
  • DD is a lot harder to get to sleep and her nighttime sleep has been erratic. One morning she sleeps til 5, next day til 3, and today she is up at 1:30. Her new ability seems to be busting out of any swaddle so that is totally working against me. The other morning when she slept til 5 then she was up for the day. Her naps were rough the first few days but yesterday was good. She definitely wants to be held more so I have just been wearing her more. That seems to keep her happy. She is really enjoying making spit bubbles though so when I do wear her I end up with drool all over my shirt.

  • I'm clueless about all these leaps and what and when to expect. Is there a website or can someone explain?? Thx
  • @lcr23‌ & @jenniferb123006‌ no sleep but 15-25min cat naps. Finally 1:30a down...now were up eating again...I'm hoping I can put her down in her RNP...past 3 mornings it's been bed sharing as Well after our am feed...ugh I definitely a "Mombie"
  • DS experienced all of this plus daytime napping at daycare he slept like a champ...daytime napping with me on the weekends meant that he only slept longer than 15 min unless he was sleeping on me.

During this leap I got through it by napping with DS during the day.
  • Oh and with the LO not nursing well...I thought this too only to realize that DS may be getting more efficient at it and not needing as much time as before.
  • I'm clueless about all these leaps and what and when to expect. Is there a website or can someone explain?? Thx

There is an app called Wonder Weeks which explains it all. X

  • We are approaching 7 WK and LO is cranky as all Hell! He screams and cries and.nothing consoles him. His naps suck and he has only been eating 4oz/feeding instead of 5oz. Gassier than normal, too. Only naps on a warm body. Ugh.
  • @BeckyF82‌ I can't find this app..... FML
  • Day sleep is nonexistent. Night sleep hasn't been affected much.
    Cranky as can be.
Eating has been a bit worse, probably causing gas. The cauliflower floret and coleslaw I ate the other day didn't help either.
She's smiling more (despite her fussiness), can't keep her hands out of her mouth, making bubbles, and drooling a bunch.

  • She definitely found her hands and is always sucking on them and has just now begun focusin on the toys on her bouncy and play mat.

  • Don't know if it is related to the leap or not, but the past two nights she has reverted to waking every three hours. She is also busting out of her swaddles so I bought some new swaddling blankets in the hopes that will solve the problem and I can go back to sleeping.

My kid will have all of the leap "symptoms" but hit it a day or two early and then it really only lasts a couple days. He is 8 weeks today, so has been in the leap for half a week or so but he seems to be getting over the worst of it *knock on wood*....

  • We are three days out of leap 2, and LO is mostly happy, sleeping a ton, and is only fussy when he has to poop or because he's teething.

  • DD was a great eater, now fusses to get to the boob, and than fusses while on the boo . I've had to change the hold to football- it's not very convenient in public.

    Sleeping hasn't really been affected

    We started Sunday night...

Sleep sucks - going from a week of 5 hours then 3.5 hours each night to up every 2 hours then up constantly and crying from 3am on... Last night was a *little better.  Hoping to return to that unicorn sleep soon.

Fits of inconsolable screaming/crying.  Lots of long day naps.  Will only sleep on me; if I try to lay him down, or put him in his swing, he shrieks as soon as he touches them.  Oddly, happy as a clam for baths... totally uncharacteristic.  Oh, and eating constantly, just like last time.

I'm interested to see what new 'wonders' will come from this leap - I don't have the app.  He was already focusing on playmat toys, tracking me visually, and looking in the mirror independently (and smiling stupidly at his own reflection, the little goober).

Don't know if it is a country difference issue (I'm in the UK) but here is a link to it in the App Store as I can see it

    https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/the-wonder-weeks/id529815782?mt=8
  • Two major differences here:

-He's eating TERRIBLY! He won't stop fussing and moving and being a pain.

-His naps are the same but the nighttime sleep has gone backwards. He was getting 6-7 hour stretches and is now doing 2 and 3 hours at a time. Boo! Hoping it passes once the leap is done.

@dani+california‌ my LO still does the fussing & non stop moving around on the boob. I don't get it? :/

Do you guys go from birth date or due date like it asks?

  • My LO is a hard baby and really started to turn around- for the better- exactly when he was supposedly entering leap 2. His sleep hasn't really been affected at all. He has been eating less but I'm not worried about that.

  • He has found his hands, lots of drooling and spit bubbles. He's never been a good daytime napper (unless being held) this hasn't changed. However last night he decided that he needed to be awake from 1:30 until 6 am.. Fussing if he wasn't being fed. Last two days he's been attached to the boob ! We are 3 days in
