ugh

So I know I'm the only one to blame for this but I need help fixing it. My lo either nurses or is rocked to sleep every night. It hasn't always been that way. While she was still getting swaddled I was adamant about putting her in her crib drowsy but still awake. Trying to wean from the swaddled is where it went wrong. When lo is tired she rubs her eyes to the point of keeping herself awake and becoming over tired and crying. So I didn't know what to do besides putting her down asleep. If I put her down in her crib drowsy I have to block her face or hold her hands so that she can fall asleep. So she still needs help getting asleep. The last couple of night have been rough trying to get her to sleep on her own. She can do it sometimes but never for bedtime. What do i do? FYI she's 7 month next week and I haven't done or even read anything on sleep training.

Re: ugh

  • The eye rubbing thing sounds tricky.  Have u tried a sleep sack?  I felt that kind of gives them a sense of security - they even make ones that strap around the chest so it could make her feel like she's still being swaddled.  i know CIO isn't for everyone... but you'd be surprised how well it works.  My daughter gets fussy and cries when i put her down for naps in her crib (surprisingly she's fine at bedtime), and i found that if i set the mobile to play (it usually goes for 2 minutes), it distracts her, and she calms down and eventually puts herself to sleep.  maybe that will help distract from the eye rubs?

  • i would also say to try the mobile. My LO is at the phase of resisting sleep. But he loves his toys, So when he puts up a fight, I turn on the mobile and he stares and talks to it. slowly he drifts off to sleep.

Or if your LO loves contact, than try brushing her head in a constant and slow motion (or back if she sleeps on the side/stomach). The repetition gets them like rocking but your not holding her.
  • For using a mobile do you guys keep enough light on for them to see it?
