I need decorating help - If you still own really books…..

DH refuses to get rid of any of his books, even though he never reads most of them. This guy still have text books from college. I'm pretty sure half the info isn't even relevant anymore but he thinks he might need them someday. SO, give me your book storage ideas.

  • We have old textbooks in totes in the basement. The rest on bookselves and in our night stands.

The problem is we don't have an office. So all the books are on an entertainment center that is really too big for our living room. You kept your old textbooks too? why? I'm honestly just curious….do you also think you 'might' need them like DH?

  • I have all my old textbooks, they're on bookshelves in our office. Do you have a spare wall that you could put a bookshelf on? If not, I'd probably put them in waterproof tote bins in the basement.

  • I just packed up our bookshelves but DH and I have a lot of books between us. He has a bunch from culinary school and I have a bunch from college. The majority of mine are in a totes but some of them are out on the shelves for reference or to make the shelves look fuller ;). We have the entertainment unit in the middle of 2 huge bookshelves. We have books, picture frames, seashells, and such all mixed in.

Maybe divvy them up and put some out on the shelves and put some in storage
  • Our books are in the den- seriously 3 of the walls are all IKEA's Billy bookshelves- the tall ones. The forth wall is the shorter 3 shelf ones.  And they are full.  I have them stacked different ways so it isn't like it is a public library.  Other than that I would have gone nuts with all his books, but he does re-read them, there are very few textbooks- those are mine and on one small shelf.
  • We have some of our books out on two huge bookshelves and the rest are stored in the attic. In our new house we'll have an office, so all the books will be in bookshelves. Last move we pared down to 26 boxes of books. We don't even own or want an e-reader, we like physical books.

  • We have a hard time parting with books too. I have them arranged by size and color. They look good, and it's surprising how easy it is to find a book one you remember that it's "in the green section" (for example).
Also we have as many as possible behind glassed in shelves. It curs down so much on the amount of dust they collect.

  • We have old textbooks from college and dh has a bunch from grad school. Most of the books are in the living room on a shelf (I like that floating shelves). The text books are mostly in the office but if you don't have one, you could maybe put them in a hassock that had storage or put them in those bins that slide under your bed.
