Ronald McDonald house family meals

Does anyone have any experience in volunteering with the Ronald McDonald house? I dropped off a donation there today and was chatting with the volunteer coordinator. Basically a few people get together and prepare a hot meal in their commercial kitchen for the guests to enjoy while they go to and come back from the hospital. My moms club seemed interested in getting together and signing up for a few nights of cooking there. Anyone do this?
Anyone have ideas that would be easy to make?
She said casseroles are usually the easiest so the guests can come and take a plate of food and reheat when they have time to eat. Usually with a salad or dessert.

I also want to pick some budget friendly meals, because I would love to really get involved but I don't necessarily have the budget to feed an extra 10 people every single week. KWIM? The girls and I will obviously all pitch in for groceries so hopefully we get to help out a lot. They still have lots of open nights for dinners in June so they could use the help.

  • I used to be the volunteer coordinator for our local RMH. :) We had one group that always provided breakfast (usually on a Saturday). Most of our meals were dinners, so breakfast was a nice change and it might be more budget friendly?

  • I do it at a homeless shelter. The last one we made tacos, cornbread and a salad. We've also done drumsticks and pasta. They get a lot of burgers and hot dogs and lasagna as well. If you google recipes for a large party there are a lot of sites.

  • I think this is awesome! We don't live near any type of these but I wish we did!
I would do some type of pasta dish like baked ziti, lasagna, or chicken spaghetti! Those are fairly cheap and easy to make in larger portions!
