Our apartment burned down last night, a fire started in our neighbor's kitchen. We lived on the 3rd floor of a 3 story, 6 family, building and there is no longer a 3rd floor at all. We lost our 3 bunnies who we've had for many years and basically every single thing we own. Honestly, we're incredibly lucky, no one in the entire building was hurt. We think the attic might have already been on fire while we slept so the fact that we got out is incredible. We have been so blessed by the many many people who have offered us help and support and I'll never forget it. I'm so overwhelmed though, we're living with my wonderful parents but their home is so non-baby safe and they're trying to sell it so I feel terrible messing it up. People have offered us all sorts of things that we'll need but right now I have no where to put it and no idea where we'll end up living or when. The worst part is losing all the sentimental stuff, the journal/baby book i've been keeping for L, all our pictures, our wedding guest book, his baby hand prints. I just keep thinking of all the things I should have grabbed.
Anyway, there's no real point to this post except to vent a little. I hate to vent to the people who have been helping us so thank you all for 'listening'.
I am so so so sorry! That's so scary. I am glad you have family and friends around offering help. I can't even imagine how overwhelming it must all be. I know we are just random internet people, but if there's anything we can do, just ask!
Oh wow. I'm so so sorry, how awful. I hate to hear about your bunnies and all of your sentimental stuff, I can't even imagine how that must feel. Thinking of you today.
I'm so sorry! That would be so horrifying to go through! I'm glad everyone got out unhurt, but sad that you lost all of the sentimental items. I hope you begin to feel comfortable in your parents' home as you get your life back on track.
I'm so glad that you and LO ( and your H) made it out safe! And very sorry for the loss of all your stuff. Hopefully things settle siren soon so you have time to take stock.
As for things with sentimental value - maybe contact wedding guests/photographers with requests for pictures/mementos?
Oh my gosh - I'm so sorry! I'm so glad you and everyone else in your building made it out safe. Please let us know when you're ready to accept "things" and what you need.
Oh dear. Sorry for your loss, I'm a bunny lover too. They really are gentle creatures. I'm so glad you and LO are safe. And what @murphie82 said, hopefully we can help in some way if you can think of something.
I am so sorry this happened:( and glad that you guys got out safely. I am sorry about your bunnies.
My close friend experienced something similar several years ago due to a fire that started when their roof was struck by lightning. Their townhome did not burn down but what wasn't ruined by the fire was ruined by water while the firefighters tried to put out the fire. Do you have insurance? Their insurance ended up putting them in a corporate housing type (furnished townhome) for 8 months while their townhome was gutted and repaired. The insurance company also hired a fire specialist cleaner that took all of their remaining belongings and cleaned them from water damage and smoke damage (didn't even know a business like that existed).

Luckily we did have renters insurance, Thank God! While we're not in the greatest position my heart seriously goes out to the other families in our building, none of them had any insurance and I can't imagine what they're feeling.
ETA: If anyone rents please get renters insurance, it cost us less than $25 a month and we've now used it for a theft and a fire. I don't think our landlord's insurance will really end up covering anything for us (the sweet man did go straight to the bank and withdrew every single deposit in cash for us, he felt so bad)
I'm just beyond words for you right now. I'm sure you're so upset over the loss of your sentimental items. Please, please let us know if there's anything we can do to help you.
I'm really sorry you had to go through this, this is horrible. Thank god that you, your family and everyone else was unharmed. If you need anything, let us know!
So sorry to hear, but so glad to hear that your family and neighbors all made it out okay. A fire has always been one of my biggest fears. As others have said, it is just things you have lost and those things for the most part can be replaced, no matter how upsetting that may be. Hopefully friends or family members have some copies of some of your photos and are able to get you copies of them. Also don't forget any that you may have saved to The Bump, I'm not sure if it is possible to get them back or not, but it is always worth a try. I just said to my husband that we really need to think about keeping copies of our sentimental items elsewhere, it's something that we never think about doing for the most part. Keeping you all in my thoughts tonight.
Oh my! I'm so sorry! I'm sorry you lost your bunnies (my heart breaks for you) and all your sentimental items. I'm so so happy to hear you have renters insurance. We are landlords and it's always the first thing we tell our tenants to do. I'm glad you guys made it out safely and so did the other tenants.
I am so sorry this happened to you but I am so glad everyone made it out safe. I'll be thinking of you and your family and jet us know if there is anything you all need!
I am so so sorry....I can't imagine what you're going through/feeling. I so glad everyone got out safe. I hope you are able to find a more permanent living arrangement soon.

If your renters insurance doesn't cover somewhere for you to live , the property owners insurance should.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.
