Pregnancy and strep throat?

Sooooo oldest DS came home from school yesterday and said his throat hurt. One look and off to the dr we were- it came back positive for strep before the test was even completed.

So, I'm trying to prepare myself if I get it. Have you ever had it while being KU?

Not pregnant but I had it like 2 years ago from my little sis who got it from my nephew who contracted it from school. Luckily, the kiddos did not get it but lucky me did. I didn't know I had contracted it until I slowly felt like death and thought something was seriously wrong. Doc gave me antibiotics because through testing they found out it had reached my blood stream. I had to switch antibiotic twice because they usually give penicillin and I'm allergic. So I had to take an antibiotic for a bit longer.It took about 2 weeks before I reached normal. I went again for testing a few weeks later and I was good.

If he can take penicillin it kills the bacteria within a few days. Once he starts the medication for at least 24 hrs my doc said it will no longer be contagious.

I'm sooo sorry. You and your poor boys just can't catch a break lately! I hope your luck changes and you don't get it.

oh no! strep is the worst. i hope ds feels better soon. maybe up your vitamin c intake and keep windows open to avoid the spread.

I've not had it in years. I do see pregnant women with it at work all the time. FX you don't catch it, if you do you can still be treated hope the lil guy feels better soon!

Common signs include-sore throat, no cough, fever, headache, abdominal pain & white spots in your mouth.

*knock on wood* I don't catch it or any other weird type of rash that I commonly see at work.

I had it this pregnancy. I took a 10 day course of penicillin and I am fine now. It's yucky to have because you can't take anything for the symptoms when pregnant but Tylenol. My OB said the penicillin was okay to take.

I had it right around the same time I got my BFP. The doc put me on an antibiotic and it made me so sick, on too of the m/s. Not fun! I hope you don't catch it and hope your DS is feeling better soon!

I hope he feels better soon! I didn't have strep, but I had a sinus infection about a month ago. I took the Z pack & it cleared right up w/ no issues. Good luck!

I haven't had strep throat while pregnant :S I just wanted to say that I hope your DS gets better soon and you don't get it!

I had it last week. It's the worst! The Dr gave me penicillin. After trying everything possible for relief, I finally got some with a Cayenne pepper, honey, and garlic mixture. Gross, I know! I was desperate. I hope you don't get it!

I had it at about 8 weeks. Had a fever and didn't know it but I ended up with the rash luckily and not the sore throat and body aches. Took amoxicillin for it and the rash went away and took Tylenol.

Got it this pregnancy and lost 8lbs in 5 days. Didn't help that I also had an upper respiratory infection, sinus infection and a reaction to my meds which caused a lot of vomiting. (note: vomiting and strep throat is the worst pain I have EVER felt) Anyways, I did my best to keep drinking whatever I could being as food wasn't an option. I got by with a lot of chicken broth and even chicken n' stars to try and get some calories into me.

I called my midwives to express my concern about not eating during this sickness and they assured me that baby would get what it needed from my body and not to worry.
