Baby Names

Team green, due yesterday!

Hi ladies! We are due any day now, and still waffling on boy names. DS is Miles Christopher. Boy options: Warren Michael (husbands choice) - how does this fit on a little boy? What is the NN? I love the name, but feels like a MAN name, not fitting a little boy. Sullivan Michael (my fav). Husband not on board b/c we have no Irish background. I love Sully, or Van for short. Girl is decided, I think... Carys Sophia (mn is family name) Help me with Warren! What do you think?

Re: Team green, due yesterday!

  • I prefer Warren to Sullivan, but it's not my bebe.

If you really don't like Warren, please speak up!

I do know a Warren (my age) and as a child and teen he went by his initials-- W.R.  It was cute.

  • I much prefer Sullivan and I love both Sully and Van. Warren is NMS, I just don't see the appeal. At this point, it might be easier to take both names to the hospital and see what feels right after you meet the little one.
    I love your girl name!

  • Thanks, Ladies! I do like Warren too, it just feels so manly. Which is awesome when you're 30, I just struggle with the fit for a small child... It's a big, old name. We have a long German last name, which makes my hubby not like Sullivan. It's a big responsibility naming a child! Thank you all for the input. What about Ren for a short NN for Warren, just at home? Is that crazy?
  • I feel like Warren is more of a first name than Sullivan...just my opinion.  I'm totally a nick name person, so I'd definitely call him Wren.

My son is named Walter, which has a similar feel to Warren. I actually love Warren, too. I call him bubba, which was completely unintentional. I call his twin sister sissy (i totally thought I'd call her Ellie.) I felt similar when I started introducing him as a teeny baby...such an old man name on ababy. But really, you're an adult much longer than a baby and even a child. So I wouldn't let that bother you. I would let a family Nick/pet name happen on its own.

I like Warren okay (but I prefer Walter).  Only problem I see is it might sometimes come out sounding like warn/worn.

I don't really like Warren because, war. And I also can't think of an appealing nickname. Sullivan has the sully problem. That's not a nice verb. It doesn't sound like you are very enthusiastic either. I'd keep looking to find something you both can fall in love with.

I like Warren better than Sullivan. I'm not big on the last-name-as-first thing.

Your kid will spend many more days as a man than as a baby or a boy, so I'd think a manly name would be appropriate - he'll appreciate it when he's 30.

  • I like Warren. No need for a nickname. I'm sure you'll come up with a little pet name to call him while he's a baby/young child, like Pumpkin, Bubba, or Peanut, etc. I wouldn't worry too much about a nickname, as long as the full name is something you love and he can grow into and wear proudly as an adult.

p.s. my husband just chimed in and said this "If it's Sullivan you call him Sully. If it's Warren you call him Beatty." -Hahaha! I laughed. Sorry, we have silly senses of humor :)

  • Warren is great.  Remember, your child will (hopefully) be an adult for much, much longer than he is a little boy.
