sippy cup thrower

LO can grab her sippy cup (has handle on each side) but just likes to wave it around and throw or drop it. And she can't tilt it up all the way to get water out. Anyone else who has same and any recommendations on another cup to try? Would a straw one be better?

Re: sippy cup thrower

  • We use a straw cup and I almost always hold it for her to drink out of. If she seems serious about drinking I'll let her hold it. Once she starts to play I take it away because it isn't spill proof. If your DD is having trouble tilting it enough would it help if it were fuller?

    I have two recommendations--buy a sippy cup without handles or get a sippy cup strap.

    When we give LO a sippy cup with handles, he always waves it around.  But when we give him his NUBY ones without handles, he is much less likely to do it.  With the straps you can buy, if the baby throws the cup, it doesn't hit the floor.
  • L has been throwing his Sippy cup on the floor since day one. We have tried everything to break him from it. The minute it leaves his lips it's gone on the floor. If we try to take it when he is done he makes it his personal mission to get it back just so he can throw it.

  • We have 3 rotating cups. Each day is different on which one he likes......so odd but true. We have a munchkin straw one, the avent and Nuk. Some days he chews on the spout of the Nuk one and other days he chooses to toss it like a ball. Sometimes he chews on a straw of the Munchkin one and other days he plays with the plastic lid of the avent. So annoying. Most every. single. flippin. day he throws the cups on the floor at every.single. meal. SO ANNOYING! This transition to cups is not a easy task to accomplish.

  • KJ loves to toss her sippy cup too. I think I will remove the handles as suggested above. She won't suck a straw though. Just give it time and keep trying .

  • I got a straw one for her to try before and she couldn't figure out the straw. Any tips for straw cups or did everyone just keep giving it to LO and eventually they learned it?

  • @CL8badB‌, hahaha that's funny! BUT I want to try "showing" her so she gets it. She just bites down on it now.

    I kept giving it to him but i also showed him how to suck air. Haha
    I dont know if it actually helped but i just looked at him, put my mouth in a sucking position and loudly sucked in air. Im nuts i know! 8-}

    Not crazy at all. I have done the same thing over and over. Today I did it in public and looked around to see if anyone saw me. LOL Sadly it's not working.
