Question about pumping and supply

So, pumping has been going well - I'm pumping for like 5 mins after every feeding and sometimes getting 3 oz at a time.   This morning we had a marathon BFing session of 35 minutes on one side (and I did hear swallowing the whole time so I do think she was actually eating) and I pumped a little on the other side.   Then I took a shower a little while later, and DH fed her a bottle (she only took 2 oz) and as soon as I was done with my shower, I tried to pump and got practically nothing!   I dried up on both sides really fast and couldn't seem to get a good flow going.   Any thoughts?   I hope my supply is okay!!!!

Re: Question about pumping and supply

  • How much is "practically nothing?"  It sounds like she probably got most of what you had at the time...I bet later today it will be different and you'll pump more again.  After I feed DS I only get like 1/4 oz. when I'm done, so sounds like you don't have any supply issues.

  • How long between feeding and pumping?? You really should wait a little while (2 hours??)
  • Also, if you are getting 3oz at one pumping session and your DD is only 2 weeks old, you actually have an OVERSUPPLY.
  • If you got 3oz in 5 minutes, I wouldn't be worried about your supply.  It sounds like the second session was too soon.

  • Your baby is really young. I think she is getting plenty. 2 oz for a week old baby is a lot. You are still working out your supply, so just feed her when she is hungry or if you are paranoid feed her every 2 hours and you should be fine. Don't start stressing unless you think she isn't getting anything, which doesn't sound like the case.
