high hcg levels

Hey all I was bleeding so to cut the story short I contacted my midwife who sent me for a scan, on the scan there was an empty sac so they explained that might be cause I'm very early pregnant, the next thing they did was took some blood from me to test my hcg levels ...the first reading was 8009 they repeated the test 48 hours later the 2nd result was 15504 ! These readings seem pretty high to me considering there was no fetal pole on the screen during my ultrasound scan! Can anyone shed some light on this for me pls? My last LMP was 09/04/14 I work my dates out to be approx 6 weeks, but my midwife says I'm less than this, I'm so confused thanks for reading xx

No their happy that its not a ectopic , I've heard if your hcg levels are high from early there's a good possibility that its a multiple pregnancy, I'm a little worried about that (lol)

That's actually a very popular misconception. HCG cannot indicate multiples.

No advise but my levels also seem high. I'm not sure how far along I am, I never got my period back between a March miscarriage and a positive April HPT. I had an U/S last Friday and the sac was measuring 5 weeks 3 days but no fetal pole. My HCG levels from blood that was drawn the same day were over 25,000. I always thought with levels that high you should see more on U/S scan? My HCG levels as of yesterday were just over 29,000, is this an appropriate rise? Sorry to hijack you thread babymachine6!

The bolded had me horribly confused until I realizeD it was dd/mm/yy instead of mm/dd/yy. When did you get your positive test? Do you know when you ovulated?

Redbirdfly, I got my positive on the 8th of may, i think I ovulated around the 22nd/23rd of April

I've been booked in for another scan on the 28th may, hopefully I will be able to find out how far I am

Was your scan abdominal or trans vag? If it was abdominal, that would definitely explain why they couldn't see anything.
