Short version:
Thor William arrived on Saturday, May 17th at 5:54pm. He was 7lbs 11oz and 21 inches long.
Long version:
I woke up Friday at 4 am not feeling right and having mild contractions. DH woke up about an hour later to head to the gym, but I asked him to stay home because I felt so off. I ended up sending him off to work at 8am. My contractions subsided about 9am and I chalked it up to false labor. Throughout the day I continued to feel kind of crampy and really off. I kind of laid around, but then had to get up and get dressed since the plumber was coming and then our DirectTV had gone out so the repair guy was coming during a 12-4pm window. I called my mom a couple of times and she told me what I was describing sounded almost identical to what she had experienced when she had my brother. So she told me to watch it. By the time the cable repair guy shows up at 2pm I'm able to time my contractions to 8 min apart and I'm miserable. But I wanted my stupid cable fixed, so I was determined to not have to leave until he was done fixing it. Luck would have it, a squirrel had chewed a cord on the roof so it was taking f-o-r-e-v-e-r! I finally called the nurse around 3:30pm and asked what I should do. She said it sounded like it was time and even if my contractions were that far apart I should come in if I was really uncomfortable. I called DH and told him to come home and get me. Cable guy finished just as DH pulled in the driveway. Needless to say, the cable guy was totally freaked out and I'm pretty sure thinking this is ridiculous that he's even here.
We get to L&D around 6:30pm Friday night to find out I'm 100% effaced but only dilated 1.5cm. I started crying. The contractions were now about 5 min apart and really painful. They kept me in triage let me labor to see if I could dilate further before they decided if they would send me home. Around 9pm I started having contractions that were causing me to vomit. That was the worst. Dr. determined that I would be admitted since I was likely to deliver at some point that weekend. Once admitted I was able to labor in the tub for a while and then finally given morphine and another drug to help me sleep and get some relief. When they checked me again at 6:30am I was only dilated to 2.5cm. I almost lost it. WTF. I was miserable and did not want to get sent home. OB came in at 8am and decided to give me an epidural and start the pitocin, since I was already over 40 weeks. I got the epi at 9:10am and the pitocin started at 11:15am. I was able to nap and enjoy conversation with DH. By 4:30pm I was at 8 cm and given the "peanut" to help me labor down. Around 5pm I told DH to call the nurse because I felt like I needed to push. I was checked and they could see the top of his head! OB came in, they set up, and I started pushing. After 32 minutes of pushing, Thor was born! I have one 2nd degree internal, perineal tear but that's it. So besides being sore and exhausted, I am doing really, really well!
We are absolutely, completely, and totally in love!! Thank you to everyone on this board for your support these past 9 months. You are all an amazing group of women and I am blessed to have been in your company. Good luck to you all and H & H 9 months!
