Baby food

My little man is going to be 6 months old on Wed.  Not sure if anyone else is making their own baby food but I just went to the store tonight and got a ton of stuff to make little man some good eats.  Is it wrong that I got a little giddy realizing that summer is upon us and the possibilities of foods for him to try are endless?  I can only hope he isn't as picky as his sister cause that one is gonna drive me to drink with her pickiness.  There are days I wanna toss her out the window.  I love her but she makes me crazy with her food refusal.

Re: Baby food

  • I've been feeding Evie purees for about a month now.  Our pediatrician told us at her 4 month visit that she could start on cereal.  I started out making my own, easy things like avocado, sweet potatoes, bananas.  Since I don't have a good way of processing the food to a puree consistency, I quickly switched to jarred foods.  I'm going to get a processor soon though and just start blending up the foods that we have for dinner if they are appropriate for her.  Our 6 month visit is Wednesday, so it will be interesting to see what the doctor says.
  • I don't make my own but DS2 won't take purees.  So we are doing BLW so he is getting some of whatever we are having as long as there is something he can eat.  Tonight he will try chicken.  So far he has had peas, carrots, sweet potato, watermelon, grapes, avacodo, and mango.

  • We've been buying purees to see what they like. We've also done some finger foods - banana, broccoli, carrots, apples - to let them interact more with food. I have a Baby Bullet that I got from a shower and I can't wait to start making food. I also have a couple mesh feeder for fruit. I just bought watermelon and blackberries for them.

I pureed some mango for him tonight and he LOVED it.  Have one more container full for tomorrow.

Shelly- remind me again is BLW the one where you basically are giving whole foods to the baby?  Not asking in a snotty tone.  I remember reading up on this when my 2 year old was 1st starting on solids but for the life of me can't remember exactly what that is.  I will google it once I am off of here.

I am going to try avocado within the next few days it just needs to ripen a bit more.  They were either over-ripe to the point of being gross or bright green so I just need to wait it out lol.

Whipple- I hear ya.  I love making the food but it gets to be a pain in the #$%#@ at times.  And I don't have a lot of freezer space so make what I can and I do have jar food in the pantry as well, especially for when we up his eating and I will need food on the go.  I have a Cuisinart immersion blender that came with a bowl attachment that purees pretty well and it isn't crazy expensive.  Here is a picture (mine is just plain white)

  • @Geeps2 Yes.  BLW is when you start them on whole food instead of baby food/purees.  I did a combo of (store bought) purees and BLW with DS1.

My friend got me the Baby Bullet and I'm really excited to try it. I hope to do mostly fresh and just have some organic jarred food on hand for outings/backup. Geeps we are a week behind you, we are 6 months next Wednesday! Happy six months today!!

Thanks Guennie!  I can not believe that he is 6 months already.  Time sure is FLYING!!!!  Luckily my summer vacation will begin soon so I have some time off to be with my 2 coo coo birds.  There are some advantages to working in the school system :)
