Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Lo is 6mth now and my husband is so eager to turn LO into a fish. hahaha

Any tips to introducing him to the water?

I've read alot of stuff online, but I wanted to hear what you guys think.

I'm curious as well. There are Water Babies classes at YMCAs and health clubs and I was considering doing one of those. But we have 3 pools in our neighborhood, two with splash pools so I'd love to take him on my own.

  • use a pool shirt and swim diaper. If outside, make sure to have sun tan lotion and maybe even a hat on if it's sunny.

I've taken my LO (3months) in with me a few times and just held him as i walked around and he loves it. I'm just REALLY careful about splashing to make sure that he doesn't accidentaly swallow any pool water.

We have been going since 3 months.  I just let her go and off she swims!
No really I hold her and she has the same reaction as she does to the bath.  She loves it.

Also do not follow the advice of lotion.  No lotion until 6 months.

  • Check with your pediatrician on the lotion. There are two types. One is primarily zinc oxide which is in most diaper creams and safe regardless of age according to my pediatrician (ie neutrogena). Others tend to be chemical based (ie water babies, copper tone, etc).
