Sam's club

There is a special on Zulily today for money off a membership.  Is sam's worth it?  I've had a Costco membership and really liked it but have never had one for Sams.  Do they have cute/cheaper kids clothes?  Is the merchandise high quality like Costco?

Re: Sam's club

  • I like Costco better, personally, but you can still get good deals at Sam's. They get a lot of Carter's clothes, and they do have a pretty good selection of toys and stuff. I've never had an issue with quality.

I think it depends on the location.  The Sam's by me has somewhat similar merchandise to the Costco.  The Sam's parking lot is a nightmare, it's somewhat oddly organized, and it has horrible lighting.  Sam's carries Pampers and costco only has huggies.

  • We have memberships to both because they are literally next door to each other here, and their product lines are very similar but there are a few select things that I buy only at Costco (diapers, wipes, chicken breast, cat litter) and some only at Sam's (cat food, milk, pepperoni, corned beef, apples). I don't know how good of a deal the Zulily price is, but I recommend you do the following: create a fictitious business for yourself, make yourself a business card in Word and print it out on card stock, and take it with you to sign up for a business membership. Their business membership costs the same as a personal membership, the business card is all the proof they ask for, and you get to shop there earlier than everyone else.

  • I bought that deal today.  It is worth it IMO.  Works out to less than $20.
  • I prefer Sam's Club to Costco. We have memberships to both places. We do most of our grocery shopping at Sam's because the items are all $1-2 less there. Sam's has a lot of Carter's clothing items for kids, and I've found some decent items for myself. We have the premium membership so we get discounts on our monthly medications also.

  • @lalamama81, I really can't believe we are the ones that find her statement ridiculous.

I mean, if one has so much free time that they can go home, create a business, make a business card, drive back to Sam's and lie? WOW. And I when my twins were that young and I had a toddler? I was on survival mode. No time to create a fictitious business. Seriously, all for a $30 savings?

I've been a member for years now, long before I had kids, and at that point I did have a small side business with business cards all ready to go. I was very surprised that all they wanted as proof was a business card, though, and being able to shop at 7am has been helpful plenty of times.

  • I agree that creating a business is super bizarre. However, for some weird reaaon, I have a business account at Sam's Club. I have NO idea why!! Or how! I just know that I can shop there by 9:00 after I drop off DS at preschool and other people are turned away until 10:00. LOL I just realized that literally *everyone* else in there has those ginormous flat bed carts with tons of pop and chips cause they're vendors for companies. Maybe that's also why I get charged an extra $40 every August to renew my membership. OMG I keep laughing now...

We had a business membership because DH worked for my IL's business until FIL passed away last summer.

We just had to renew and bought the Prime membership which gets the same perks (including early hours) as the business one does.
