Parenting after a Loss

so I took out the bumper...

After my post yesterday, I was up every 30 minutes last night to check on DD (even with the video monitor!) and had terrible dreams that she stopped breathing. Talk about anxiety!! DH and I decided it wasn't worth worrying about it, especially since she really seems to like squishing her little face up against it.

I feel much better and she is up there napping without it no problem. But I loved that darn thing! Any ideas on how else I can use it in the nursery? I don't really want to alter it because I might decide put it back in when she is a bit older and the SIDS risk is lower.?

Re: so I took out the bumper...

  • We have the Baby Sense Monitors in our cribs which go off if there is no movement detected for 20 seconds.  This is a great piece of mind, we love having them to alert us if there is any kind of problem.

  • No idea on what to do with it - ours is cute too - i had it in the crib when she was not sleeping in there but took it out when she moved to the crib.  I would love an idea of what to do with it too.

  • Crap... now I'm all worried about mine.  I love it!  It's Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic.  Maybe I should remove it too.  When is the SIDS risk lower?
  • just a warning, once the sids risk is lower you won't want to put the bumper back in... it becomes a climbing hazard at that point... :( DD almost got out of her crib by getting a foot on top of the bumper and almost launching herself over the rail... needless to say my mom turned it into pillows for her.

  • I saw a nursery where someone used the bumper as a valance on the window...very cute!
