1st Trimester

5 weeks Elevated heart rate and blood pressure

Hi! I'm 5 weeks pregnant and I have had an elevated heart rate since I became pregnant (that is one of the reasons I knew actually). Even resting it's 105 on average. I also had a blood pressure check and it's 125/74 which I know isn't high but for someone who has consistently had 110/60 my entire life, it's a little scary. I have my first appt in a week and a half, but I am going to call to see if I can get in earlier.
I'm 24, just under 5'5" and 111 lbs.  This is my second pregnancy, lost last one at 4 weeks.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Also slightly unrelated: I'm discovering so many pregnancy symptoms that no one ever tells you about, like gas, constipation, elevated heart rate, and cramping. Was anyone else surprised by a symptom that turned out to be fairly common?

Re: 5 weeks Elevated heart rate and blood pressure

  • Once you get pregnant your body makes more blood. A slightly elevated heartrate is to be expected. I have read that people who are pregnant with twins often have a noticeably elevated pulse. Perhaps you're just MORE pregnant than you first suspected? That is, this might not be a bad sign! Don't stress too much (easy to say, right?).

  • Thank you for the reassurances. I'm sure everything is fine, but I'm a bit paranoid. :)
