Blood Thinners during pregnancy

Good Morning!!! Okay so the is my first pregnancy where I have not miscarried. I have had 4 miscarriages in the past, never making it past 12 weeks. I am 16 weeks right now. A few weeks ago they did blood testing on me to check for a few things and  abnormalities. Okay long story short my blood work came back with three abnormalities. They also told me that my blood was clotting too much which is the reason they thought I was miscarrying so much previously.  They sent me to a hematologist, to further look into my blood results. He wants to put me on blood thinners, lovenox, throughout the rest of my pregnancy. I am really nervous about this. That appointment was a week ago. They have me coming back this morning, and im not sure what to expect.  Not sure If they are going to start me on it. I will have to give myself a shot everyday which that's new to me also, but I was just curious if anyone has ever been through this??

Unfortunately it just happened to me and I was hospitalized for a week! They could not find the clot after several test! After completing the MRI they discovered it in my pelvic area! My leg is huge I can barely walk and have a walker. This has never happen to me before! I was very afraid at first because I hate needles. But I have successfully been giving myself lovenox shots and I am seeing a little bit of the swelling going down. They ran tests and believe the causation is the pregnancy and fibroids. I'm currently on bed rest until June 1st and very thankful they caught it right away! I am being monitored thus far on a weekly basis and everything is still going really well since the lovenox. This is my first pregnancy.

Oh my goodness. Well that's good they caught it. That's what they told me, I haven't had any actually clots but they said that my blood is just clotting too much and they want to prevent something like this from happening. Im so sorry you are having to go through this!!

Thank you! You will be fine! I got over the shot after the fifth injection! I have to do it once daily and will have to continue one month after the birth of my son! Just a slight warning...the medicine stings...like a bee sting :-S when are they going to start the lovenox?

Yea im nervous about giving myself a shot! Where do you have to do it at? They haven't told me any of that, I'm assuming thats what they are going to tell me when I see them today. They told me the same. Up to 6 weeks after the birth of my daughter. OUCH!! that doesn't sound good :|

I have to do it in the opposite leg. The one that's not swollen! And they trained my mom how do it in my arms so I don't exhaust my leg. I'm pretty fair skin so I bruise easy but they assured me it would go away!

Do you know the abnormalities?  I have ANA (anti-nuclear antibodies) and anti-cardiolipin antibodies but neither at a clinically meaningful level at this point in time. The levels get retested every 4 weeks and if they become clinically relevant I will have to begin lovenox.

ETA: also, you should visit the high risk board as many women there are on lovenox.

@VCGolfNYC‌ I was prescribed lovenox by specialist at the maternal fetal medicine practice. No abnormality concerns!
It will be ok! You will get use to the shot! I'm on 120mg :(@kmgriff0709‌

I wasn't concerned about abnormalities; I was suggesting a MFM for a second opinion on monitoring, delivery, etc..

I have three different abnormalities that is making my blood clot, and forgive me because they are long words I would have to look at to spell and they aren't in front of me this second. Because I am high risk pregnancy they feel it would be better for me to go ahead and start lovenox to be rather safe. I have been seeing an oncologist/hematologist who has been talking with my OB and they decided for my recurrent miscarriages that it would be best for me. I feel better about it after the appointment today, I just wasn't to educated on it before, seeing how I have never taken blood thinners.
