I had some in DS crib and they actually still in there. He slept in a bassinet next to my side of the bed until he was 6-7mos. I didn't have a problem feeling that they didn't need to be in there.
I got some with the bedding set for my first - not intentionally, they were just in the pack I was bought.
I have to say, I really didn't see the point of having it IN the crib because she couldn't roll as a newborn so didn't need a way to stop her arms sticking through and as soon as she could roll, she tried to rip them off so they lasted one day when she was a few months old before I took them out and fastened them to the lower outside part of the crib to hide the mattress and the storage boxes underneath since there was no crib skirt in the set.
Pretty if used decoratively outside the crib or used some other way but not worth the extra effort/expense of actually buying IMO. This one has just got sheets and blankets for now and I might make a bedskirt later to hide what's stored underneath but that's all.
One came with DS's bedding set but we never used it. I did use a breathable bumper after he kept getting his chubby legs wedged between the crib rails, but, that was probably closer to when he was 1....I think, can't remember!!
For the twins, we are going bumperless and will go the breathable route if need be.
I used one with DD1, only because it came with one. (We actually just cut it off last week and threw it away). The bedding we picked out for DD2 doesn't come with one, and I don't see the point in spending an additional $30 for it
We had the breathable bumper on the crib. By the time he started moving in his sleep, he was playing with the bumper and eventually using it to try to climb out of the crib. Not sure if we'll use it for DS2. In fact, I don't even know where we put it. Edit: words are hard today.
I'd def get breathable bumper. I decided to not have a bumper then i woke up to my poor little guy with his leg stuck btwn the rails of his crib. I got the breathable bumper the very next day.
Alex has arrived! 9 pounds, 21 inches - 3 weeks early on March 2nd
~went natural - very intense. whew!~
It is a KNOWN SIDS risk - not just for smothering but also for reduced air flow
Once your baby starts rolling you can always use breathable bumpers, but for now I will use nothing, it's just not necessary and I would never take that risk
Didn't have them at first with my daughter because I didn't buy them in the beginning just because she started in a pack and play anyway. Then I was given some and she started moving more and ending up with her feet caught between the slats of the crib so we put them on. I will be starting Jackson once he moves into the crib with bumpers.
Wait, so, you were just wondering if anyone else thinks it's a good idea to use something that is known to increase your baby's chance of dying? I can't handle it.

OMG why would you take the risk??
