Diagnose my baby

I'm freaking out. Tanner has been congested and kind of raspy for about 2 weeks. He had an appt with his pediatrician today who said there isn't anything he can do for the congestion. Well over the course of the night he's gotten progressively worse, he's tired, won't hardly nurse (bc he can't breathe) and just over the last couple hours he's had a seal like cough. Well now he's having short, labored breathing. My brain is screaming at me that it's RSV so I'm not taking chances and headed in to the hospital. I'm scared ya'll. I hope I'm just being a crazy mom...

If you're that worried take him in. You'll feel better knowing you had him checked. Hope he feels better.

Thanks ladies. We are waiting on the RSV test to come back. They gave him a steroid to help him breathe and he got chest X-rays.

I hope the test is negative and it's just really bad congestion. Can they use their respitory equipment and suction him out really well?

I don't have any experience with this but it sounds like you're doing the right thing. Hopefully they can figure out what it is and that it's nothing major!

That's my thought too. My DD gets it all the time and it's downright terrifying the first time you hear that cough. It's worse at night. Bringing her into a bathroom with a hot, steamy shower helps. Hang in there!

Fx it clears up quickly and the hospital can suction it out so he can breathe

Hoping the RSV test is negative and your LO feels better soon. One of the twins was hospitalized with it at three weeks old and it was no fun. I agree with PP's about the hospital suctioning them out and hot steamy showers at home. That really helps!

II agree with PPs that the 'seal bark' cough sounds like croup. A cool-mist humidifier is usually helpful and cool air (since it's usually worse at night, people will often take baby outside or for a drive with the windows down if it's cool outside). I hope everything turns out okay. Keep us posted!

Thank you so much ladies. Sorry I haven't got back with y'all. It is just croup and not RSV thank goodness! The steriod they have him helped tremendously. We actually went home and slept for a solid two hours. They xrayed his chest and it was clear so they didn't suction him out. It was all in his throat. I'm going to break out the humidifier tonight and also try the shower trick.

I appreciate everyone that had T&ps and helpful advice. Y'all are the best!

If he's congested, the nosefrida snotsucker and saline is your friend. Mine has a cold now with congestion and in the beginning before every bottle I would squirt the saline in a nostril and suction out out as much as I could. I'd saline/suction each nostril about 2-3 times until I was satisfied he was as clear as I could get him. Then give a bottle so they can suck back any loose stuff in their throat with milk. Now my LO's getting better so we only do it when he needs it. Good luck! I know that can be very scary. Hugs! We took my LO to the ER in the beginning. Then I perfected my saline/suction so we haven't needed to go back.

I had to go get him on my lunch and bring him back with me. The sitter said he was spitting up a lot of milk (which I'm sure is just bc of the drainage) and just wanted to be held all morning. He's resting very well on a pallet in my office floor.
