Is this normal??? Dr office closed I'm freaking out

Baby has been colicky for a few days now... I am just dealing w it on a day to day basis . But today she hasn't ate a lot. She is mostly breast feeding I was supplementing w formula at night and I also pump and bottle feed. But today she hasn't ate nearly as much as normal. She refuses the bottle, the breast everything! Will she be ok? Just now my DH is holding her rocking her waiting for the witching hour to pass. Any advice till dr is available tomorrow? Tia

  • Is she having the usual amount of wet diapers and not running a fever? If so, I'd be okay waiting until morning. Does your doc have an after hours line you can call? Most do. You can try that if you're really concerned.

Yea normal amount of diapers no fever . She was up till 2 am w colic and woke up at 7 with 3 motn feedings . The dr has a nurse on call I have called her once before and she wasn't too helpful. I rather ask him directly . If she is hungry she will ask for food right? She is 5 weeks

I had this with my DD. She wasn't much of an eater anyway and then one day she refused everything. My pedi had an after hours message service and I left a message and a dr called me back and talked me through it. I gave it a few more hours and she finally ate a couple ounces. I still don't understand why she would get like that sometimes. Does your dr have an after hours service?

I can't tell if her soft spot is sunken!!!! She has hair and I really can't tell. She has bad colic from 8 to 1am so idk if this is part of it but her diapers are wet and normal i hate speaking to that nurse she told me last time that I was making a big deal out of nothing... Kid was constipated and gassy.

I'd get over any preconceived notions of the nurse and call. If you don't like what she says, ignore her and wait till morning but she might be helpful this time around.
  • As long as her diapers are okay, and no fever, I think you'll be fine til morning. Watch for darker than normal urine and orange spots in her diaper. That will signal dehydration. And even then, she should be fine til morning. Mt LO got dehydrated like that and was fine to wait through the night and go to the doctor the next morning. Keep trying to feed her, try to relax, and call your doc in the morning.

I just wanted to know if other kids have done the same thing. I'm a ftm and honesty lately I feel like idk what I'm doing. I called the on call service , it's true what you guys suggested and even tho I don't like the nurse at least the dr will know I am concerned. She told me to wait it out see if she ate because she is also going thru her colic episode. She actually nursed for 15 minutes big gulps non stop and has calmed down a bit. Thank you for the support I know this isn't a doctor service I come here for moral support from more experienced mothers .
  • Lots of us are first time moms who feel like we don't know what we're doing. But as usual, @babycaps is spot on. If you are truly worried about your child's health and safety, you suck it up and call the doctor or go to the ER. You do that first, before anything else.

Just like during pregnancy, if you asked us if your symptoms were serious you'd get a similar response to call the doctor. We don't know. STMs don't even know if your baby is dehydrated from not eating. If your gut is telling you there's a problem, always call. And don't give a damn about what the nurse thinks. You are your child's only voice right now and she is on call to help you determine if something is urgent.

Thanks I already did. I know you guys can't advice or diagnose my kid. It was a moment of wtf do I do my kid isn't eating! And I just thought I would ask if this is maybe part of the whole colic thing that she is going thru. But she was fine she ate and has been wetting diapers and pooping as usual. I won't freak out post next time. Thanks!
