1st Trimester

Migraine/ Vision

I am 9 weeks pregnant. Lately I've been getting pretty bad migraines. I've never had migraines or really even had headaches very often before pregnancy. Along with the migraines, I've had a lot vision problems. It's not blurry, but instead a streaky line through my vision that keeps blinking. I don't know what it is. The doc keeps saying it's a pregnancy migraine, but the vision part is really worrying me. Has anyone had these streaky symptoms??

Re: Migraine/ Vision

  • Hi...sorry to be lurking on the 1st trimester board.  I did a search on migraines, because I wanted to post in response to a previous thread on my birth month board (August 2014). I saw your post and thought i'd comment.  I had terrible migraines during my pregnancy.  I was getting them 2-3 a week. I tried chair massages, prenatal masages, got new glassess.  You name it, i tried it to no avail. Most recently, I went to see an acupuncturist who specializes in treating pregnant women and boy has it made a difference. Not only with the migrains but with sleeping and constipation.

I HIGHLY recommend, if you are looking for some natural treatments, trying acupuncture.  I mean i've only been doing it for 2 weeks, but i really feel the difference. Good luck!

I've had migraines for 25 years and always have an aura. I first loose my vision, sometime partially sometimes completely. About an hour after that happens I get a migraine. In the past few years I've actually also started loosing feeling in my arms or whole side of my body and confusion (not being able to speak). try taking Tylenol when you first notice the aura, and take magnesium at night, lavender essential oils can help too. I had previously started a thread about this ill get the link
  • I have these migraines as well. Mine have been horrendous during pregnancy. My ob told me I could take Excederine Migraine, it is the only thing that helps. He told me to wait until my second trimester, so if you can hold off for a few more weeks, I would definitely try that! Good luck, they suck so bad.

I get complex migraines. First, I lose my vision, then 1 side of my body goes numb, then my speech becomes aphasia. It has left me in the ER too many times due to TIA/CVA like symptoms. Now when I start working somewhere new, I make my supervisor aware of the symptoms and that I prefer them to call my DH over going to hospital. I try to track the triggers, and as soon as my vision goes I tell someone I am with what is happening, what is going to happen, and call my husband. Edit to add: I also take whatever medication us approved right away.
