Pregnant after a Loss

Those of you with blood clotting disorders-how often did you get u/s in the 1st trimester? *UPDATE*

Hi Ladies!

I'm hoping a few of you will be able to weigh in on my question.  I likely have antiphospholipid disorder and I lost my last 2 pregnancies around 6.5 weeks.  These next couple of weeks I have a feeling I will be a bundle of nerves.  My first u/s is tomorrow to ensure it is intrauterine (so that I will be approved to begin Lovenox) and I hoping my OB will approve a follow-up scan a week from tomorrow, and then one more a week after that.  Is that too much to ask for?  Is that typical for someone with a blood clotting disorder?  I just know I'll feel much more at ease seeing a healthy heartbeat and getting beyond my loss milestones.  What has your experience been?

***UPDATE***  I had my first u/s today and I measured right at 5 days.  I figured I would be measuring a little earlier than my LMP because I know I ovulated on cd16 and I believe it implanted on cd28 - thus, knowing I"m only 5 weeks was a relief because I wanted to make sure Lovenox was started very early on.  We saw a gestational sac and the beginnings of 2 little blobs - likely the yolk sac and the fetal pole.  They want me to come back 1.5-2 weeks from now for a real viability scan, where we'll look for the presence of a healthy heartbeat.  If that goes well, they'll have be back 2 weeks later and then I'll be released to my regular OB for the typical scheduling of appointments from that point on.  I have a very good feeling about this pregnancy...please keep us in your T&P's!  I'll belong to the Lovenox club starting tomorrow morning :-)

  • I agree with the PP to trust your doctor.

I don't have a diagnosed clotting disorder, but I do take a daily baby aspirin as a "well it can't hurt so why not" preventative measure. That being said, I had 3 ultrasounds in the first trimester. They were at weeks 6, 9, &10. The wait in between weeks 6 and 9 were the hardest, but I was torn because I also didn't want to expose my baby to any extra ultrasounds if not necessary. Best of luck to you!

I see a RE because of my septum surgery. They usually do a 7wk, 9wk, and sometimes 11wk. It might be different for fertility treatments/ivf patients.

Due to my lmp & ov date being so far off, I had them at 4w3d, 6w4d, 8wk, and 9w4d. The 8wk was a calm-my-fears check since I had sharp pains.

    BFP#4 3/17/14 - rainbow Baby BOY arrived 11/10/14 !!
