At Adeline's 9 month appointment the doctor gave us a script for her to go get tested for anemia and lead. I researched it and I guess it's a standard test but when I went to get her blood work yesterday the nurse told me that they usually don't do it until they're 12 months. Did anyone else have an order for blood work at 9 months?

We have weekly labs so we didn't, but I remember some other people saying recently they had those tests at 9m.

This kid may not have a lot of bowel, but he has plenty of guts! DS born at 34 weeks with (surprise!) gastroschisis turned short bowel syndrome. 131 days in the NICU, 7 trips to the OR, G-button, daily TPN....
We are impatiently awaiting the day we can say goodbye to his girlfriend Ivy for good.
They did a heel prick at P's 9 month appt, but I think it was to check hemoglobin.
Thy drew her blood in the crook of her elbow. The nurse actually told me that they won't do heel pricks after 3 months because they don't want to injure their feet. I wonder why the discrepancy.

They did the blood work at our 9 month apt. Totally wasn't expecting it, it was torture!! I had to hold him in my lap and keep his right arm again this body while they drew blood from his left arm. He was screaming, but right when it was over he was all smiles. I think it tramatized me more than him!
I think DD will have her iron level checked at her 9 month appt. We were told thats when their iron stores can start to drop.
They usually stop doing heel pricks when they start walking because the skin on your feet start to toughen up and it makes it harder to do. I don't think it has anything to do with injury, just discomfort for baby.

Finger prick test for anemia at the 9 month appointment. I remember talk of a lead test with the older kids, but it may have been later, or maybe they didn't get tested for lead because we live in a newer house without lead paint (1990's).

Toe prick at our 9 mo checkup on Monday, to check for anemia since he is primarily BF, was the rationale I was given. They ran the test right there and then and came back in to let me know he was fine.
My doctor ordered it but we didn't do it. When we went to our 9 month appt she said it wasn't a huge deal that we didn't get it done. She said some insurances require it but ours didn't.
I kind of wish that I didn't bring A to get it done, our insurance doesn't require it. I discussed it with my husband beforehand and he was pretty against it because there is pretty much 0 chance she has been exposed to lead and there is no history of anemia in our family. Having to hold her down was horrible, I have major mommy guilt.
