Is leftover milk sanitary?

My daycare provider has been giving my son leftover milk from a feeding one, sometimes two or three hours before. Is that sanitary? I've read that bacteria gets introduced when the baby takes a bottle and that if it is not consumed in one feeding it should be discarded.

  • We always use the milk if if has been less than 4 hours, and we have never had a problem.

It's usually fine to use.  I do give it a sniff beforehand.  I've also heard that babies will refuse milk that's gone bad.
