Are vertical blinds my only option here?

We have a sliding glass door in our kitchen that currently has the cheapest, crummiest verticals on the planet covering it. They need to go, but I'm not sure what else I could put on the door. I like the look of verticals and the fact that I can let in a little or a lot of light (versus some sort of shade that would be all or nothing). I don't like how our current fabric ones are always coated in pet hair, and how many of the plastic kind seem to be noisy. Is there another door covering option I just don't know about?

Doesn't help with the dog hair but I personally like the look of double curtains with a sheer and darker panel.

Love the sheer curtain underneath and solid curtain on top layer and bring color to the room.

I love this look! But it would be a mess.

  • We have a sliding glass door in our kitchen. I put nice heavy duty blackout curtains on it. Works wonderful for the summer when it gets hot and keeps the heat in in the winter. JCP has awesome ones for great prices. Just a though! And as far as hair, we have 3 cats, I know all about fur. I wash them every few months or use the Pledge hair remover when needed.

I actually like this look! Any idea where to find them?

  • You can take curtains down and wash them though! Far easier to keep clean than stupid vertical blinds.
Good point, but I kind of suck at curtain washing, as in, it never seems to cross my mind.

@melody921My mom had them installed in her condo by a local "window covering specialist". I could ask the name, but we are in Canada so I'm not sure it would be much help.

This is the website I got the image off, might be a start: https://www.louisvilleblinds.com/blog/index.php?categories=Patio Doors ; https://www.blindsandwindowtreatments.org/sliding-door-blinds/

  • We are looking at doing enclosed honeycomb blinds on our sliders, it is more expensive initially. The bonus for us is that we will never have to clean them and the dogs/kids can't mess them up.

I've never heard of a honeycomb blind, but I like the sounds of them from a cleaning perspective. Off to Google...
