Tummy sleep question

For those of you that have lo's that sleep on their tummy now, did it used to wake them up at first? And what do you use to keep them warm beside their pjs? DS has master rolling, during the day anytime you put him down he flips to his belly and on a blanket will roll from one end to the other. He has started to roll onto his tummy at night but it has been waking him up when he does it. Also we were swaddling with his arms out, but now that he is flipping onto his tummy I'm not sure what to do, I was up all night last night checking on him constantly. Anyone have some advice? Will he eventually get used to sleeping on his tummy?

Re: Tummy sleep question

  • Mine just started doing this and yes, when she rolls over at night it wakes her up. I can usually just go in there and roll her back over and she goes back to sleep. We also use a ergo cocoon sleep sack, with arms out to keep her warm. Eventually after a few wake ups my LO will pass out for the rest of the night no matter what position she is in. It still kinda freaks me out when I come in and see her asleep on her tummy, but she seems ok with it so I let her...she is able to flip back to front and front to back now.

  • I still swaddle with arms out for naps and use a sleep sack at night also with arms out and LO is still able to roll back and forth like that.

When I put LO down on her back she def wakes up from rolling, but she rolls every time. Honestly for naps I just put her to sleep on her tummy since I am able to supervise her. Naps have improved significantly since we started this. Eventually things will improve I think it's partially the rolling and partially learning to transition back into sleep after a minor wake up like we as adults are able to do! I just rub her back or pat her bottom while shushing and it usually settles her back to sleep.
  • M has been doing this for about a month or so now. She did wake up in the beginning but is now used to sleeping on her belly and doesn't wake up anymore. At first I was up all night checking on her but the pedi told me it was fine since she can roll on her own. It's getting warmer here so I just use heavier pjs to keep her warm and she is fine.
  • DD woke her self up in the beginning but I think she's getting used to sleeping on her belly. We put her in a long-sleeve onsie and cotton sleep sack. If it's a little colder over night then we will put her in footed pjs with a cotton sleep sack.
