My Dh is looking to hopefully get orders to Germany soon. He is AD Army. Our son was recently diagnosed on the spectrum. I'm trying to find out if Germany is autism friendly or if we may have to stay stateside.
I am military (well, I am the spouse. he he he) but we are not dealing with Autism. You will need to enroll your son in EFMP (the Exceptional Family Member Program). It is mandatory but is fairly easy to do. The EFMP status will be considered as PCS orders come (and it has to be). I have a friend who has an autistic son and they are also military. I will see what they know but they have not been OCONUS so they may not know much. I am going to assume that your husband's MOS will somewhat determine if the family will be allowed to PCS overseas. It is the military so things can be iffy and challenging or sure make it seem like you have to go through a million hoops sometimes. If you have some specific questions let me know otherwise I will just ask her a couple of general questions.
Thank you ladies I am enrolled in EFMP myself so I do know that he needs to be enrolled. I had put that on hold because we live off post currently and his PM and therapist coordinate his care. I just don't want Dh to put all his efforts into this move only for it to not work out. I spoke with my EFMP office but it always helps to ask families that are in the same boat.

If he has a dx, get him enrolled in EFMP. Yeah, it could impact where you move to...but it will be in the sense that the services for your child will be available where you are sent.
Not sure if the Army has it as well, but Navy has a program called ECHO which can help you get additional therapy.
June bug the Army has ECHO as well. I planned on enrolling him in everything at the same time. I guess this will just be a wait and see then. Thanks ladies .
