Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Muscle soreness after d&c c

I had my d&c yesterday and I have what seems to be a strange post-op symptom. I am having a lot of soreness/pain in all of my chest/back muscles. So when I take a deep breath in, cough, or sneeze it hurts. Has anyone ever had this after a d&c? I do know that I had a breathing tube during the surgery so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with all this. I told the surgery nurse that called to check in with me today and she thought it was odd too and told me to call my drs office if it doesn't start getting better by tomorrow. On a better note I'm not bleeding at all post-op and I don't have any cramping.

Re: Muscle soreness after d&c c

  • That's weird that your chest is sore. I hope it's nothing serious. I know for me after any surgery my entire body feels pretty sore for the next few days because of the anesthesia. Maybe it's the same? Have you ever had general anesthesia before?

As for the bleeding/cramping, don't be surprised if it doesn't start until a couple days after surgery. My D&C back in June I had just a little bit of spotting and nothing until my period, so it's totally possible. But the one in November I didn't start bleeding until a couple days later and the cramps kicked my ass. Which seems to be pretty common.

Take it easy for a while either way. Too much activity can lead to more bleeding. Take care.

  • I remember something similar happening to @maxsmommy123112 where I think it was a reaction to the anesthesia or some other meds they used where it hurt to move for a few days after the procedure. I don't think it lasted more than a few days but if she's still around the boards, maybe she can share her experience?

  • Thanks for your input ladies. The muscle soreness seems to be lessening some. It does still hurt some to take deep breathes, but I am no longer having coughing spells every time I do so. @gabbagal I do think it has to do with side effects of the anesthesia. I think my body is just having a different reaction this time around.

  • No muscle soreness here really, but I only started to bleed heavily 3-4 days after my d&c, and finally only stopped today (16 days post)
