Pregnant after a Loss

Bio oil and PGAL!!

So I started using Bio Oil on my belly at some point in my first trimester because it came higher recommended by my esthetician. Today at work one of the pregnant girls said it has lots of bad chemicals. So I called Motherisk (hotline that tells you safety of medications/over the counter stuff) and they said in second trimester I won't affect the development, and overall there is VERY little risk to the baby with topical creams/oils. But now I'm all freaked out that I could have hurt the baby by using it first trimester, which is a dumb worry because I can't do anything about it now except stop using it! Anyone use Bio Oil and have a perfectly wonderful baby? Or have thoughts? I plan to stop using it now.

  • I'm sure it's fine. I bet your toothpaste has harsher chemicals than the Bio Oil, unless you're using natural toothpaste like Tom's.

I used it all my pregnancy with my son, and as far as I know he is beyond perfect. I am using it again since day one. I don't think is bad. The nurse at my first OB recomended it and I am glad she did, I didn't get any stretch marks....

  • Thanks @voplo! My esthetician says the same. Maybe I will alternate with coconut oil, that's what I was using at first because I always use it as my moisturizer!

  • I've used it since somewhere in the first trimester.  I started out using it sort of sporadically, but I know I've used it 1-2 times daily since the second trimester started.  My gut tells me it's fine, but now I'm sort of worried (stupid PGAL brain) that maybe I shouldn't have used it during the 1st trimester. Either way, I'm going to keep using it.

  • @robinischo, I'm sorry if I freaked you out! I actually hesitated posting this question because I didn't want to cause anyone else grief! One of the other pregnant girls at work told me today that she used it throughout her whole first pregnancy, and started in the first trimester during her current pregnancy, and she thinks it's amazing. I can't decide whether or not to keep using it! Maybe I will alternate with coconut oil.
