Recommend your P&S camera!

I'm looking for cheap (cost wise), camera preferably in the $80-$100 range. Doesn't need to be anything fancy, just needs to take pretty nice pictures. We had a Nikon CoolPix that suddenly just stopped working well, so we've been relying on our phone cameras which results in pretty crappy prints. One day I'd love a nice camera but for now I'm just looking at point & shoot cameras to take decent holiday pictures!

Aaand go!

  • I haven't used my camera well over a year. Only my Samsung Galxy S4 phone.

  • I've had three or four Canon P&S's over the years, and I have been really happy with them all.  One died from a cracked screen, one randomly died, one I decided to upgrade for more custom settings and my daughter gets to use, and then the one I upgraded to which I use.  Find one in your price range, and you'll probably be happy. :)

Of course, if you knew and loved the Nikon interface, you might want to stick with that.  (I personally find the Canon interface easier to use, but some of that is certainly familiarity.)

Honestly, my favorite p&s camera is on my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone.
Maybe we are doing something wrong lol because 4 by 6 prints from my iPhone 5 and h's Galaxy S4 come out grainy/blurry :-/
I don't think the iPhones have as good of a camera as some of the other phones out there. Sometimes I get grainy pictures on my phone too, but it's usually when the lighting isn't great or the camera didn't have time to focus.
Low lighting will cause this as the camera tries to adjust in order to get a picture that comes out properly exposed.  Totally normal on ANY digital camera.  Color depth and contrast levels are also a big part of it.

I have gotten many pictures on my iPhone that I've printed (and larger than 4x6), but the lighting needs to be right, and I have to take the time to make sure it has focused on the subject I want it to.  I should note that my iPhone 5s takes *significantly* better pictures than my iPhone 4 did.  Definitely a better sensor in there.

This one was taken on my iPhone (no additional camera apps installed), with the narrow depth of field and associated focus point on the flowers being intentional.

    As was this one:

    No grain issues there.

  • Every time I read p&s camera I read it as "piece of shit."

I don't have a p&s camera... I use my iphone5 for that. The pics are significantly better than the iPhone4. Sorry not much help :(
