Lactose Intolerant??

Iam just 8 weeks along. And all a sudden I can not have dairy. And I love milk and cheese. But I get the worse stomach cramps if I have any dairy. Could I be lactose intolerant all of a sudden?

Ask your OB.... pretty sure no one can answer this for you.

  • I had this with all 3 pregnancies and had to take a calcium supplement because I couldn't tolerate dairy. I was lucky in that about halfway through 2nd tri I was able to eat/drink dairy again. My MW said it's not uncommon but I would still talk to your ob about it to make sure it's not something more. GL!

  • I read an article that said many woman become lactose intolerant in their first trimester.  I also seem to be suffering from this.

  • Huh, this surprises me. I'm usually unable to tolerate any dairy but since getting preg I can handle small amounts of hard cheese and sour cream much better. I looked it up and found that ~40% of women have some improvement with lactose tolerance during pregnancy. Take this with a grain of salt though since I'm getting this info from Dr. Google. Best of luck!
  • I definitely became lactose intolerant with my first pregnancy. It did get better. This round I figured out I'm very lactose intolerant before I even got pregnant.
  • So it was just a first trimester phase.I now can eat/drink dairy again. Now its just the killer heart burn that I get now. But that I can deal with.
