Intros flooding the feed

I'm all for newbies introducing themselves. It is polite and common courtesy.
However, the feed has been flooded with them lately! Is this normal? Is there a chance we could start Newbie Monday or something where all lurkers and new members can introduce themselves? It might encourage more lurkers to introduce themselves and we could format it like we do 2WW and WTO. It could be similar to the newbie play dates too where we can let them ask questions without being flamed. Oh and we can always include a link to the newbie blog. Naturally.
What is the general consensus? Sound like an ok idea or am I totally left field and need to shut the fuck up?

I don't think it's a big enough deal to have a regular thread designated for it. Plus, it can be helpful to go back in their discussion history to refer to info they posted. I haven't done it a lot, but I've done it and it would be easier to do that than track down their reply in a designated post, IMO.

 If you don't like them, you don't have to read them.

I'm a recent newbie, but I still think this is a good idea with a small tweak. There have been so many every day that maybe even a daily newbie into thread might help? That way people wouldn't have to wait a whole week to start posting? And it would be easier to read / reply to a bunch at once. Just my two cents

There are intros every day on most of the boards. Just scroll past them/don't open them.

I often go back and read peoples intro's if they post something off the wall. It helps me judge if they have always been crazy, this is a new development, or just a little quirk.

I actually read the newbie intros, I don't mind them. But it's possible I'm strange (shhh everyone).

A thread for intros is cool. But I'm a returning TTC'er so learned how things go (mostly) the first time. When you're new you post threads like "Can you reach your own cervix?" (oh, wait that's just me). I like reading the intros more than the funny questions, FWIW.

I'll mark myself down as against it. If you don't like to read them, don't open them. I probably read 80% of intros, and of those, I would say 90% are actually intros. A little about the person, and a way to get into the groove of the board. Getting rid of intros every day won't get rid of really stupid bodily fluid containing questions, those people generally don't do a hello post.

I agree with @bbg676 , most boards where I've seen this try to happen it kind of sucks. Also, that there aren't really more intros than there were (Jesus, that long) 18 months ago when I started lurking, but there are less discussions both TTGPR and NTTGPR besides the mainstays, which means it looks like way more intros.

Every BMB I've been on eventually starts a consolidated intro thread and I hate them and rail against them as long as I can. Even someone who reads intros isn't going to keep up with a 300 post thread that's updated daily. It's too much. Not to add too much sunshine and lollipops, but I'm fine with everyone getting their paragraph or two saying a bit about themselves.

Especially when you all were just complaining about this board being dead. Get over it. Don't open a thread you don't feel like reading. Ummmm you were all newbs at one point.

Eh. I mean, I disagree with discouraging intros, but I wouldn't say there is no way to post as a newb. I am a big fan of lurking to get a feel for the place and then just jumping in. And really, the #1 rule of message boards is try not to GAF.

Yeah, I just went and read the entire bitchfest thinking it must have said something terrible or whatever that I missed. But it was just a couple complaints of being annoyed at intensity. Who the fuck cares? I think a lot of people here are annoying but it's definitely not kept them from posting. So, feel damned all you want. Someone will always be unhappy.

The thing is, you have to just not GAF what people think. I mean, I posted a lot when I first started until someone got all bitchy and complained. Did it stop me? No. I didn't run away. I didn't start any new threads for a while... but I mean, who cares? Just as some say "You can't control the way people on the internet respond to you",  they can't control what you post. They don't have to like it. So, as a newb, I will post what I want when I want. I am, however, conscientious of the nuances and what is considered annoying. Plus, I have a good bit of common sense. So there's that.

Yeah, that's everywhere in life. I'm sure there are people who don't like me, either. Different personalities- it's what makes the world go 'round.    Everyone will tend to have someone that kinda rubs them just a bit wrong.

That's what I was trying to say. I think it's funny to complain about the way people are posting. If they aren't spewing complete wrong information, let them be. That's all. I'm not unhappy about it, I was just voicing my own opinion on the matter.

I intro'ed yesterday after lurking and reading the newbie post (<-- awesome btw). I thought there were a lot of intro threads, but if you don't want to read them don't open them. I just didn't want to jump in and then you guys be like "umm who the fuck are you again?!!"

After lurking I noticed this board has a lot of funny, laid back, wise ladies that would be a great source for support while ttc. I do think this board could be more. Do you guys do the "regular posts" of the bump? Like (I saw bitchfest monday) FFT(Tuesday)C, WTF Wednesday, UO Thursday, and FFFC? Or general topics?

The likelyhood of newbies actually using a designated thread is approximately the same as the likelyhood that they'll check the newbie blog before posting.

I'm surprised this finally got brought up as it was my first reaction.

Even if there was a newbie check in weekly, no one would use it. We see what happens when we try to redirect new people anywhere on the board.

Also, they're new, how would they know this check in even exists?

As a newbie (less than 2 weeks), I like the "Stupid questions" thread idea and am starting to ignore the intro threads.  It's tough enough to keep up with the 2WW/W2O ones as well as regular stuff much less the dozen newbies each day that are coming through.

Thanks to everyone who has welcomed, me, though.  I'm kinda glad I officially joined before this surge... mainly so I could get to know some of you a bit before all the extra new people!

Hahaha point taken.  I meant more that I started posting before the "This board is dead now" post.  Seems like even more new people started up right after that for some reason.
