Intros flooding the feed

I'm all for newbies introducing themselves. It is polite and common courtesy.
However, the feed has been flooded with them lately! Is this normal? Is there a chance we could start Newbie Monday or something where all lurkers and new members can introduce themselves? It might encourage more lurkers to introduce themselves and we could format it like we do 2WW and WTO. It could be similar to the newbie play dates too where we can let them ask questions without being flamed. Oh and we can always include a link to the newbie blog. Naturally.
What is the general consensus? Sound like an ok idea or am I totally left field and need to shut the fuck up?

Re: Intros flooding the feed

  • I think that's a really good idea.

  • I'm a recent newbie, but I still think this is a good idea with a small tweak. There have been so many every day that maybe even a daily newbie into thread might help? That way people wouldn't have to wait a whole week to start posting? And it would be easier to read / reply to a bunch at once. Just my two cents :)

  • Maybe they can just inbox you the intros? ;)

A thread for intros is cool. But I'm a returning TTC'er so learned how things go (mostly) the first time. When you're new you post threads like "Can you reach your own cervix?" (oh, wait that's just me). I like reading the intros more than the funny questions, FWIW.

Also is it seriously snowing here? @DaBearsFansWife

  • @sassymommaC yeah I thought I was having a hypoglycemic episode like in the movies...I was so, so confused. I was in denial when they said this was going to happen on the radio because I THOUGHT THEY WERE KIDDING. Ha, ha, ha (sob, sob....)

@rentaduckie you and I could absolutely be friends with that "cervix v. tumor" situation. LOL! <3 ya

  • The thing is, you have to just not GAF what people think. I mean, I posted a lot when I first started until someone got all bitchy and complained. Did it stop me? No. I didn't run away. I didn't start any new threads for a while... but I mean, who cares? Just as some say "You can't control the way people on the internet respond to you",  they can't control what you post. They don't have to like it. So, as a newb, I will post what I want when I want. I am, however, conscientious of the nuances and what is considered annoying. Plus, I have a good bit of common sense. So there's that.

I 100% know there are people on TB who don't like me.  Meh.  I'm still a big ol' PW.
Yeah, that's everywhere in life. I'm sure there are people who don't like me, either. Different personalities- it's what makes the world go 'round.  :)  Everyone will tend to have someone that kinda rubs them just a bit wrong.

Geez, no newb can win. Damn if you post, damn if you don't. Between this and the Monday bitchfest thread it's not making this board very friendly. Especially when you all were just complaining about this board being dead. Get over it. Don't open a thread you don't feel like reading. Ummmm you were all newbs at one point.

Eta: Monday bitch tread not WTF. My days are mixed up:)

Eh. I mean, I disagree with discouraging intros, but I wouldn't say there is no way to post as a newb. I am a big fan of lurking to get a feel for the place and then just jumping in. And really, the #1 rule of message boards is try not to GAF.

Yeah, I just went and read the entire bitchfest thinking it must have said something terrible or whatever that I missed. But it was just a couple complaints of being annoyed at intensity. Who the fuck cares? I think a lot of people here are annoying but it's definitely not kept them from posting. So, feel damned all you want. Someone will always be unhappy.

That's what I was trying to say. I think it's funny to complain about the way people are posting. If they aren't spewing complete wrong information, let them be. That's all. I'm not unhappy about it, I was just voicing my own opinion on the matter.

Eta and I totally get that I was just complaining about others complaining about how to post. Haha
  • I intro'ed yesterday after lurking and reading the newbie post (<-- awesome btw). I thought there were a lot of intro threads, but if you don't want to read them don't open them. I just didn't want to jump in and then you guys be like "umm who the fuck are you again?!!"

After lurking I noticed this board has a lot of funny, laid back, wise ladies that would be a great source for support while ttc. I do think this board could be more. Do you guys do the "regular posts" of the bump? Like (I saw bitchfest monday) FFT(Tuesday)C, WTF Wednesday, UO Thursday, and FFFC? Or general topics?
  • @Jackofthebox OMG.... you have channing in your signature. Love it!

  • I think a regular newbie play date is a good idea though. Maybe help ease the transition and answer questions.
I think this could be a good idea. I have some stupid questions I could contribute!
  • Meh...I don't know why people get so freakin sensitive over an internet forum. Does anyone else not care if someone finds them annoying or doesn't like them? That.is.life.
  • As a newbie (less than 2 weeks), I like the "Stupid questions" thread idea and am starting to ignore the intro threads.  It's tough enough to keep up with the 2WW/W2O ones as well as regular stuff much less the dozen newbies each day that are coming through.

Thanks to everyone who has welcomed, me, though.  I'm kinda glad I officially joined before this surge... mainly so I could get to know some of you a bit before all the extra new people!

DH's DX- Severe MFI- first SA results: 1.3 mill (1.2 mill motile), 21.6% motility, 2% morphology
Blood test revealed low testosterone so DH was prescribed Clomid.  Repeat blood test and SA in November.

  • Hahaha point taken.  I meant more that I started posting before the "This board is dead now" post.  Seems like even more new people started up right after that for some reason.

I'll take my 4 day seniority and own it.
