Postpartum recovery question

I am wondering how long it has taken you ladies to do things like stairs and go to target and walk around a decent amount? I felt really good even 3 days PP and started to do these things at 4 days PP. I've been doing laundry, dishes and going up and down the stairs multiple times. I am worried now bc I had almost stopped bleeding at 6 days PP and now last night I had a huge gush and pretty much filled a pad in 20 min. I don't know if its because I hadn't bled all day or what but it scared me. I have a home health nurse coming today anyways to talk to but was just wondering what u ladies are experiencing. Are u still bleeding a lot a week out? Are you taking it really easy still to heal?

I went to target 3 days PP. I am more active then I was in pregnancy and other than the gym just as active as I was pre pregnancy. I am walking about 3 miles a day at a week and a half PP. I do find I bleed more he more active I am. Some days I bleed a lot and some days a little it just depends. Edited to add I only had 5 stitches so I am sure that makes a huge difference.

This is good to hear. So even though you bleed more when you're more active you don't feel like its hurting your recovery to stay active? I have a friend who just had a baby and she keeps telling me I'm doing way too much but I have a really hard time sitting around too long and like to get out and about.

nope honestly if anything I feel it helps me recover quicker. I can not sit around it just isn't me. I did basically the same with my two other kids and I recovered quickly too.

@andrewsgal thank you. This makes me feel way better. I'm just not the sitting around type but I obviously don't want my recovery to take longer than it should so I wanted to make sure I wasn't prolonging it.

It's been over a week and I can barely walk because of the pain. I'm jealous of you ladies. Heading back to Dr today I hope.

C-section mama here.  We were discharged about 2.5 days after he was born, then had to bring him back on day 4 for a quick check-up (weight, bilirubin, etc).   Since then we've been up and about, and have taken him on several short (3-4 hour) outings including grocery store, short walks, etc.   I have been able to go up and down stairs since we got home, but wasn't able to do it holding the baby until about 4-5 days PP.

I'll be 2 weeks PP tomorrow and I'm pretty much off all pain meds, and am down to only wearing a panty liner during the day and a small pad at night.   We went for a two-mile (SLOW) walk yesterday and I felt a little winded and very slightly sore, but otherwise was just fine.

I'm 16 days pp (c-section) and still feeling pretty crappy on most days. Just a lot of fatigue and general achiness. My recovery is probably made more difficult by the fact that I was on hospital bed rest for a week before the surgery, plus I've had some scary delayed postpartum hemorrhaging. I know that bleeding and discharge are normal for several weeks after, but I would be pretty concerned if I were you about filling a pad in 20 min after having your bleeding pretty much stopped. Was it bright red, fresh blood? That's what happened to me 11 days pp and I had to take methergine for three days to slow the bleeding. It still hasn't stopped, but it's not the freaky gushing it was five days ago. Like @ColleenSwerb‌ said, large clots are a red flag, but an increase in bright red bleeding more than 4 days pp is, too. Delayed (also called secondary) postpartum hemorrhage can happen any time from 24 hrs to 6 wks pp. most often occurring 8 to 14 days later. I only know this because I'm dealing with it.

Sorry for the crappy formatting, lack of paragraphs and probable typos. I've been holding a baby for 11 hours straight and I'm exhausted.

I've been up and moving since day 1 at the hospital (was doing laps in my ward!). I had a 1st degree tear but I also cannot sit still. Today is day13 pp. I went for a 6km walk yesterday (have ants in my pants tho!) and aside from a little extra bleeding (and a mean blister on my foot) it was great. So good for your mental health to get out/ up and do something!

This is good to know and I will ask the nurse today for sure. It was bright red and totally freaked me out but since that time last night it has slowed again to not needing to change my pad in like 8 hrs. If its delayed hemorrhaging does it continue or start and stop?

I too bleed more on days when I'm more active.  I had totally stopped bleeding at 6 days pp and started going on walks the next day and have been bleeding off and on again depending on my activity level.  I have a toddler though, there's no such thing as sitting around resting :)

I'm not good at this "taking it easy" thing- I was active my whole pregnancy right up until the end and am itching to get out. I feel well enough for short walks and trips out, for sure. I had a 2nd degree tear and the bleeding is pretty light. But the nurse told me to take it easier than I think I should, and that any heavy bleeding afterwards would be a clue that I have overdone it.
ETA: if I could drag DH out to Target i would....it's my happy place. But it makes him stabby. :(

I had 2 tears on my labia and I can totally tell when I over do it. A walk around the neighborhood the other day was horrible and sitting through church yesterday was pretty rough too. That is 1 week after delivery. Each day is a little better
