Pregnant after a Loss

Progesterone level question

So I have some mixed feelings today. I had an ultrasound today at 6w2d. I was happy to see that everything looks as it should at this point and we saw the heartbeat. However, they took my progesterone level today and it was 9. Three weeks ago it was at a normal level at 21. I have been on progesterone suppositories since 3w4d, but clearly they have not been doing the job. So now they are going to have me start a different type of progesterone that I guess is much stronger. I'm just curious if anyone else has had levels drop even while on the suppositories. Also curious if anyone found a low level like mine around 6w or later and had a positive outcome. I have two prior miscarriages and now know that this must have been the reason behind thoses losses. I just hope that we found this early enough and can fix it before we repeat our awful history. What a whirlwind of emotions today.

Re: Progesterone level question

  • Suppositories don't show in bloodwork, so your levels might be higher, but that is def low. I had a level of 13 with my last pregnancy at 7wks and they upped my dose of crinone to 2x per day. I went on to see my levels rise and was able to wean off progesterone at 12 wks.

    I am on progesterone in oil injections this time and I prefer it because it us measurable in blood so I can be sure that my levels are at or above where they should be. The daily injections aren't great, but worth it.

    GL and I hope the new meds do the trick <3

  • I've had 2 losses as well, and this time around I've been on progesterone suppositories since ovulation. The results from my blood draw at 5w2d showed my progesterone level being lowered than my doctor wanted (under 15) so I started progesterone twice daily, 200 mg x2. I'm 9w6d today, and so far so good. Of course I'm still cautious about this pregnancy... I think I always will be. Best of luck to you with the stronger progesterone!

    <3</p>

    This exactly. Sending you hugs and hope that the new medication does just what need. I think it's awesome that your doctor is so on top of things.

    I have a history of low progesterone from another pregnancy and now I am on 300 mg of progesterone a day until 12 weeks that I started after my trigger shot. My level was at an 8 shortly after my bfp a few pregnancies ago. Progesterone supplements did bring my levels right up. They put me on Crinone twice a day.

    Also, @kz's_girlygirl‌ I just saw you post and recognize you from the Loss board. Congrats to you!!!!
  • @jess123456‌ - thanks :) I'm super early and waiting for another beta but fx this is our rainbow <3

  • I don't have any words of wisdom, just wanted to send ((HUGS)) your way and thank you for asking these questions.  (And a thank you to all of the responders!)  I'm going to get my levels checked this week after an early BFP- it's helpful to know that the Crinone doesn't show up in the blood work.  Please keep us updated- sending the best of wishes your way!!
  • Update---
    I just went into the RE this morning. They now have me on endometrin 100mg three times a day. I'm hoping my body will do what it needs to do with it. They will check my level again on Wednesday to see where we are at and if it still is not in a good range they will try me on the progesterone injections. I'm hoping I won't have to go to the injections, but if that is what it takes I'm all for it. I'm very thankful for having an RE office that is so on top of things : ) At least something is starting to go right with this whole experience of trying to have a child. Thanks ladies!

  • Your bw may not change that much bc the vaginal suppository is absorbed directly into the tissue of the uterus and doesn't enter the blood stream. 3x endometrin, or 2xcrinonne are thought to be sufficient for total progesterone replacement from vaginal suppositories. If you decide to switch to injections, they really aren't that bad though :) GL!

  • From what I was told by my doctors the medication does enter the bloodstream eventually, but the numbers may not be completely reciprocal on the blood draw. So I guess my number could have been a little higher (hopefully) in my uterus.
