Baby Names

2 new babies born today

Maris Grace- I liked this one at first, but I was pronouncing it like Carys/Paris with a M, but they are apparently pronouncing it like Car-is (Mar-is)?  Is this legit or did they make it up?

Londiana (Londi) Jay- I have no words for this one.

  • I also thought Maris rhymed with Paris.

It is legit, from the Latin mare, maris, this is the genitive singular form of the word for "sea." And they are pronouncing it correctly. Londiana is what happens when the USA and GB have a few too many and forget to use protection.

I immediately thought of the character from Frasier.  That is my only association.

That child will be called mare-is (rhyming with Paris) and will be forever correcting others.
The other one will get this response whenever they say their name:  "What was that again?"
