10 months in, sick baby...supply dip??

Hi and hello!

Hope all is well mamas :) this may get long...

It's been a trying couple weeks as my 10 month old has had RSV and for some reason my boobs have been pancakes.

He has only had breastmilk "from the tap" and sometimes in his cup with meals. But since getting sick he has been refusing all solids and the cup most of the time.

I've had an oversupply my entire breastfeeding experience. Now, for some reason (talk about timing) I find that my chest consistently is soft and the let downs are few and far between. I watch him nurse and nurse but hear little swallowing. It's been a lot of coaxing to get him to drink/or eat at all.

I just finished my period (second one pp) last Saturday and have had this low supply business since around Sunday.

I've been offering every couple hours (vs our every 4-5 hours before illness) I've been drinking over 100oz of water, pumping multiple times a day(right after he nurses) eating oatmeal and almonds and power pumping once a day. Still, flat boobie...

Any thoughts, tips, commiseration?

Could they just be drying up?

Could stress really do this?

Aye aye aye...

Tia, you ladies are the best :)

  • could it just be that your LO is nursing so much more often than usual that your breasts don't really have time to feel totally full in between nursing sessions? that has happened to me on occasion when DS was 1 year+ and sick and nursing constantly.
  • Thank you ladies :) I'll definitely look into calcium and magnesium. With my first pp period I found I had a dip a week or so before, around o time (assuming) The second pp was 11 days "late" so maybe ... Oy all this speculating makes my head hurt! @vvvvvfee‌ definitely maybe... He's sucking more but his swallowing is less/output is less. He's gone a few stretches and still, boobs are pancakes :( reallllly appreciate all the input! Can't wait for him to get to feeling better...and that poor hacking man cough to go away!

  • Calcium and mag did not agree with me and gave LO toxic BM's. I had to stop taking it. Just increase your dosage slowly and not quickly as it can cause stomach issues.
