Supply Dip with Mastitis?

I've been on antibiotics and Tylenol/Motrin since Friday for mastitis. Yesterday and today I'm seeing a decrease in the amount that I'm pumping while at work.

Is this normal with mastitis? If so, how long will it take for my supply to come back?

Thanks!

  • I saw a supply dip the first round of mastitis, but I attribute that more to running a fever/not drinking or eating as much/etc. I EP, so I made sure to pump a TON while working thru it - since it's critical to empty the infected breast as much and as often as possible, but also helps with supply rebounding.

Hang in there. Mastitis is the worst.

  • I can't say I noticed a difference in supply but I was more interested in emptying the breast than how much I got out at the time since they had me pumping and dumping. Good luck!
  • I had mastitis in mid March and my supply just hasn't been the same since for me.  While I was going thru mastitis I tried to keep my water intake up but obviously that's hard when you have a high fever and just want to sleep.  So I don't know if I have taken in less water than I did before mastitis or what.  But I am pumping 3 times a day at work and I am just or barely getting enough milk for 1 bottle.  She is taking 7 oz, twice a day at daycare.  I have a hugh freezer stash so I have always been sending 1 bottle a day from my frozen stash.  So then any more fresh than 7 oz goes into my freezer.  I used to pump a lot more than I do now.  Sometimes I don't even get 7 oz from my 3 pumpings.  Then I had a pumping before I go to bed at night.  I don't know if mine is a combo of things, maybe less water intact, I have stopped pumping on the weekends in early am and before bed (but I did that quite some time before mastitis hit me), more stress with my job this time of year.  But I feel like my supply just hasn't been the same since I had mastitis a month ago.  Hope you can bounce back.  Have you tried power pumping?  I did that with my son to try to boost my supply.
