Re: Eleanor or Emmy?

  • Eleanor is lovely, but not with Elaine.

  • If Emmy would be a nn for a name like Emmaline or Emily then I would definitely choose it over Eleanor.  Otherwise it just sounds too cutesy.

  • Love Eleanor!! But I'm biased. I like Emmy as a nn for something else, like PP suggested. Also...Elaine has a similar sound to Eleanor. Would it work as a first name for you? I think it's very pretty, too. Nicknames could include Ellie (similar to Eleanor/Emmy) and Laney (similar to Emily).

  • I'm think Emmy would be cute as a nn for Emmeline.

Side note, Elaine is awkward with any of them (two E names, similar sounds). But since it's a family name, I say go with it anyway. Good luck!

This. I don't like the flow at ALL.  But love both separately. I like Emmy, but as a NN for a longer name... not on its own.

  • I did vote for Emmy bc i love the name just a lil more then Eleanor. I think if you went with Eleanor Elly would be an adorable nick name & both Emmy & Elly would sound nice with your sons nick name. Congrats & good luck :)
  • I like Emmy as a nn, but not as a full name. I don't think either sound good with Elaine though. I love Elaine- could you use it as a FN?

  • I love Eleanor but it looks and sounds a little too similar to Elaine for my taste. I agree with the others that maybe Emily Elaine or Emmaline Elaine sound a little better?
Maybe even go with Elaine as a first name? Or use Elaina?

  • Thanks for all the advice! We love the names Eleanor and Emmy, just having a hard time deciding between the two. FN Elaine really isn't an option because we aren't in love with it, just the meaning behind it. I didn't even think of Emmy as a NN so I think I'll look into that. Thanks again for all of the ideas!

  • Hi there! Yeah don't use Emmy on it's own. I went by this as a kid/teen and let me tell you how thankful I am that my parents really did name me Emily. It was cute when I was little but I'm not little anymore.
  • I think Eleanor is a beautiful name, but I agree w/PP's that it really doesn't flow well with Elaine. I also think that Emmy is a cute nickname for a child but not something I would want to put on a resume as my official name.

  • Emmy is beautiful. Eleanor...YUCK! I think it goes much better with Elaine as well

Emmy, but it would be better as Emmanuelle, especially with her brother's name.

    Emmanuelle isn't a boy name? :/
