I can't burp. If I drink carbonated beverages (or now, pretty much every time I eat) I get this "bubbly," backed-up feeling in my windpipe. It makes me want to vomit and is extremely uncomfortable. The only way to relieve it is to stick my finger down my throat and essentially "vomit" the air up.  It's so hard to find the privacy to do it without anyone hearing (and I need to be in a bathroom in case it makes me actually puke) that I end up being uncomfortable and miserable for hours at a time.
I can't burp either!! Never been able to - my throat makes the most ridiculous sounds these days (sounds like a frog croaking?) and gets all bubbly and I eventually just have all this air come up. Weirdest thing ever...I totally feel your pain!

OMG. THIS IS ME! I have never heard anyone else say this. I have probably burped 5 times in my whole life and sometimes the gas/backed up feeling is SO UNCOMFORTABLE.

futuremrsbrian  I almost made a reference to the Borg specifically Seven of Nine earlier and then I thought you would be the only one who would have any idea what I was talking about. lol.
I love Seven of Nine! I'd love to cosplay her, and almost did once but then I decided to go for something a little more complicated (the construction process is my favorite part).

And I totally have a borg cube on my Christmas tree. It lights up.

  • I was super bummed that I was out of audible book credits until the 21st until all this Harry Potter talk started! Totally redownloading the series from my account to visit with my old friends.

I would love to be her for Halloween but wouldn't even know where to begin on the costume. I will have to tell my DH about the borg cube. He will love that!!

  • @helloblueeyes - the question is, which version? Or all of them? I'm a TNG fangirl myself, but I also enjoy Voyager. ToS is ok but cheesy, like watching the Adam West version of Batman. I actually really don't like DS9 or Enterprise.

Who doesn't love a good screening of Star Trek 4 though? "We must go back in time to rescue some whales so that they can save us from the aliens!" Hilariously epic.

I think this means you are a Ravenclaw. Fo sho.

    @LiteraChick I WANT THAT SCARF.
DH got it for me a million Christmases ago, it's a prized possession!

BTW, my in laws got me the special edition of "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" and it came with a bunch of 5x7 illustrations of all of the drawings JK Rowling put in the book. I thought about framing these and putting them in Brom's Nursery!image

You just gave me a Nerd-gism. LOL. This is really beautiful and awesome. What great in-laws to get such a creative gift. Brom will love it.

I really want to know the name now!

Speaking of names, my sister just had her baby, literally three hours ago. She had a girl and I'm having a girl. Anywho, no one will answer my question about what the baby's name is. I am beginning to fear she stole my baby name. If someone doesn't answer the damn question before 5:00, I'm driving straight to the hospital to straighten this out!!!
    Gah, that would be awful!

New FFFC... I absolutely do not get it when people say they will have to see if the name they have picked out fits their baby when he/she is born. I am not pin pointing anyone specific with this, I have heard it for years. But, how can you decide if it fits when they are born? They don't come out with much of a personality. I wasn't sure about my son's name until it just grew on me to the point of "of course that is his name" at like 2 or 3 years old. By that time, it's not like I can change it. I feel like you pick the name you like and they will grow into it. They don't come out with a name stamped on them somewhere.

Not sure how to explain it @zarkarella, but DH and I did this with our DD.  We had a short list of 3 names that we had both agreed upon (and loved) but we waited until she was born to pick which one was going to be her name.  Once she was born and we met her one of the names just felt more "right" than the other two so that is the one we chose for her. It was just a feeling of looking at her and saying "yup, that's her name".

We will be doing the same thing for our DS with a short list of 2-3 names picked out and then wait to see which one suits him once he's born.

Maybe one of the others can explain it better...

Would it be immature to still name your daughter the same name, and then point out whenever anyone asks that your sister isn't creative (and/or is a b****) and decided to steal your name instead of thinking of her own?! ;-)

I feel the same lack of understanding for people who pre-name their children. I have met many people in my life who l don't think fit their name. Even just when first meeting them - he/she doesn't look like a "Bob" or whatever.

I also have good friends who pre-named their daughter. Then renamed her (with all the paperwork and hassle) a month later, because the first wasn't the right name for her.

I'm not naming the idea of a child. I'm naming a child. So, I want to look at that face before I pin a name to it. We have narrowed our choices down to 2 girl names and 2 boy names. And I believe, when I look at the child for the first time, I will lean more towards one name or the other. At this point, I like all the names equally, but I'm sure I will have a preference when I look at the kiddo.

  • Just out of curiousity OP, what happens when you Google & a random image of a half naked hottie comes up? There's generally no warning bells for that.

I realize ^this^ sounds very sarcastic & I'm honestly not trying to be. I'm just asking.

Your question doesn't sound sarcastic to me.

I find it distasteful, but I live in the world. I see these things everyday. I try in my own life to make a conscious effort not to be desensitized to these sorts of issues surrounding our visual culture and their possible implications.

P.S. Have been away from the computer for several hours and am responding to comments on page 4. I see the thread is up to page 9. I have not read ahead yet.

  • @jensavicci they are totes green ;)) my Father has one green eye, one blue. My brother got the blue, I got the green and my other sibs got my Mom's brown.

So I'm really curious if Brom will turn out with heterochromia

@zarkarella LOVE the pic, so kyoot
My SO has heterochromia, one brown, one green, but we call them his "mood eyes" because depending on his mood, the green can look so light, it's almost clear.  People notice all the time, but when we first met, he tried so hard to get me to pay attention to it.  I'm a bio teacher, and ended up explaining to him how it happens, totally non-impressed, while he was busy making eyes at me- literally.
