C-sections

C-Section vs. vaccuum? 1st pregnancy

This is my first pregnancy. I'm 7 weeks right now. I'm considered high risk due to a venous malformation in my brain. I'm restricted no pushing for when delivery comes. I've been given the option of a c-section or going into labor then using a vaccuum since I can't push. I'm looking to see if anybody has experience or advice as to which one is the best/safest option. I've been researching but I would really like some personal experience/opinions.
Thanks for any input!
I'm 22, My Husband is 30, we got married May, 2011 started TTC August of 2011. Started testing at a little over the year mark. I think I was afraid to find out if something was or wasn't wrong. Anyway so far. Dx: Low/weak ovulation: 1st round of clomind 11/2012 no response. Didn't do anything in December because of Holidays and everything. So waiting to start so we can to round 2 of clomid 2nd round of clomid: 1/2013? image

    I agree with PP.

ETA: I agree with the c-section choice :)
  • Thanks for your opionions! I'm leaning more toward c-section, but I wanted some opionions since this is my first. Thanks so much!

  • I'd opt for the section I think, but the vacuum and forceps freak me out.

  • I just had my second baby in January. Due to complications the Dr tried to use a vacuum and my son ended up with a nasty hematoma on his head and I ended up with an emergency c section.

Vacuum kind of freaked me out. It could end up with you needing a c section anyways so I think I would jump right to a c section.
  • DS was vacuumed and it wasn't the best experience. The dr said he would give three tries and if it was unsuccessful we would have to go to c-section. First attempt, nothing. Second, the suction fell off. Third, he came out, thank god!! I ended up getting an episiomoty and ultimately with a grade 4 tear. I don't have any c/s experience and don't know which I would rather have torn to shreds....my abs or my lady bits, lol!!!

My son was born using forceps and a ventouse/vacuum and I bear the internal and external scars that hurt and bother me to this day. It looks like I will have to have a CS this time due to a big fat fibroid sitting over the exit anyway but boy, am I grateful - I would never want to experience anything like that labor ever again. Over 35 internal stitches, they lost count of the external. He was born VERY quickly due to being induced which was certainly a major factor but the damage was partly due to the equipment they used as well. Having said that, I can't remember feeling the vacuum, only the forceps. They hurt like hell.

I have had two csections and for me neither were horrible experiences. I am not "pro" C/S but I cannot fathom the vaccum and would likely choose the C/s any day.

  • I had my first C in January due to big fibroids blocking baby girls exit. I obviously have zero experience with the vacuum, but I vote to go with the C in your case. My actual surgery was fine and my recovery was MUCH better than I had prepared myself for!

No experience with the vacuum but I have had 3 CS and they were fine. A vacuum might work but a CS will for sure work. Good luck to you!
  • My first was with forceps and my second was a scheduled C- I'd do the C again, not the forceps. I'm currently 2 1/2 weeks out from the C and feel 95% back to my old self. The last 5% is because I'm still on a heavy lifting restriction. I'm in no pain and stopped needing Motrin about 5 days ago. At 2 1/2 weeks out from the forceps I still couldn't sit down or walk without pain.

  • Thanks everyone for all the advice! And sharing experiences! It really has helped with my decision. Now I know I will be going with the section.

  • If you can't push at all, I'd say a c sec is way safer for the both of you. I'm not a dr, but it sounds so bizarre that they'd even offer the "don't push, we will just vacuum" option at all

  • Csection. Hands down. I'm terrified of the forceps and vacuum and I'd also think that your odds of ending up with an emergency c/s anyway would be higher. I would ALWAYS choose a scheduled c/s over an emergency one but even more so with your condition.

  • CS all the way. I've had no side effects or painful reminders of it after initial couple weeks of healing (if that). The people I know who had vacuum or forceps assisted births have had many, many troubles including chronic pain, incontinence, etc.
