St. Agnes Hospital Post Maternity Tour Info.

Expecting Mommies with questions about St. Agnes Hospital, hopefully you will find some comfort in this post. I will be delivering my LO at St. Agnes in May and my husband and I just took the tour of the maternity center yesterday. I wasn't sure how much information to expect on the tour but I was very impressed with how thorough the nurse Janice was that gave the tour. She walked us through the entire process of what to expect when we arrive to give birth...I'm not sure how we'd function going into this blind so I highly recommend anyone delivering at St. Agnes or any other hospital to take a tour of their maternity center. If you go into labor on your own and call your OB or Midwife they will let you know when to go to the hospital, usually if it's your first you'll go when contractions are about 5 minutes apart for an hour. Depending on when you arrive at St. Agnes you will go to two different locations. Between 6am-9pm you will go to the main entrance and check in with the front desk, after hours you will go to the ER and head on up to the 3rd floor (North Tower) where the maternity center is located. After checking in at the nurses station in the maternity center you will be escorted to your delivery room. Delivery rooms and postpartum rooms are separate. Both rooms are individual rooms with on-suite bathrooms (shower and tub). In my opinion the rooms are large. St. Agnes seems to encourage mobility while laboring, they give you a hep-lock for IV and don't continuously monitor the baby from what I gathered. They also want you to keep your LO after delivery and the entire stay. They place the baby on you immediately after-birth given all goes well, you are encouraged to begin breastfeeding right away if that is what you wish to do to help deliver the placenta. When you move to the postpartum room a couple hours after delivery baby comes with you and rooms in. You are also given 5 passes for family members to gain access to the maternity center. St. Agnes underwent renovations so their main entrance and many wings are brand new and very attractive, their cafeteria is also nice and includes a Starbucks, Subway and Chic fil a.

If you have additional questions feel free to PM me I took a lot of notes.

Re: St. Agnes Hospital Post Maternity Tour Info.

  • Thanks for this! I will be delivering there in September. I have already scheduled my tour :) Did you take any of their classes? We've signed up for infant care, CPR, childbirth, and breastfeeding (FTM here!).
  • This was very helpful! I am delivering there in October.

  • Thanks so much for your post. I will be delivering here in November.
  • I'm new to Baltimore, been here almost 10 months now. My boyfriend was born in St Agnes 38 years ago and we live right across the street! I can see it from my back window! :)
I'm giving birth there in November and was very happy to see this post.
    Thanks for the info! :)
  • You are all very welcome :)

I have not taken the classes offered at the hospital, only the tour. I have Kaiser for my insurance and they offer the same classes for free through their centers. We use the new Kaiser Baltimore Medical Center in Halethorpe, it's very nice and you can't beat free classes :)

  • I just wanted to say that I have to second your review of the tour and Janice, she was great!  She visited me after my baby was born and seemed to really care.
