Trying to Get Pregnant

bridesmaid dress: wwyd?

ok, so my friend is getting married in sept., and i am a bridesmaid.  she picked out a dress, but they are discontinuing it and it is on clearance (yeah!).  the dress is gorgeous, and it looks great on me in my current size.  so, my problem is: what if i get knocked up?  i have to buy it soon, because of the clearance issue, and i am obviously not going to stop TTC.  would you buy two sizes bigger, just in case, and then pray that it can be altered either way?  (i;m going on my 5th cycle trying, so I am hoping for the lucky cycle soon, but realize that it may take a while...)

TIA

  • I'd be afraid that I'd jinx it by buying a big one....

  • I would get it a little bigger...things can always be taken in, but not necessarily out.  The money you saved by getting it on clearance can go towards the alterations if need.....or best of all....you'd be knocked up and the size will be just right!  GL!

    that's what i was thinking...

  • yes i would but it maybe one size bigger. i've realized i cant plan my life around being pregnant when im not.
  • I think you should just buy it in your regular size. This actually happened to one of my bms. I quickly ordered the dress off ebay and she was able to have fabric put in.
  • It wouldn't hurt to go up sizes. I wish my bridesmaid had done that. We bought the dresses before she got pregnant (but she was trying to get pregnant) and then when she did get KU, we were trying to race around to get extra material for her dress!

  • i was told by a seamstress to buy the current size but also buy an extra yard or two of fabric just in case.
  • the dress is $40!! and i even like it!  imagine that.

thanks for the advice- good point about altering.

  • I am going through the same thing! Our decision was to order 2 sizes up. Worst case it can be altered down to my regular size. Best case all the extra material can be altered to fit my belly bump in it. GL!!

  • We were stuck in the same situation back in June.  My friend is getting married in June of this year...she ordered extra fabric for those of us that might get pg (thank god she did).  I figure there should be no problem adding an extra panel and changing it into a corset-back.  I'll be 7 mos. at that time.

  • I would buy one size bigger just in case. I know that i could be bigger or smaller in a year just because, not even thinking about a baby.  I would get one a little bigger just to be on the safe side anyway.  Don't count your chickens before they hatch, if you got KU this month you wouldn't probably want to be in the wedding anyway.  Live your life like you would if you weren't TTC.  I've been trying for 13 cycles, if I'd always thought I was going to get KU and planned around that I would be sitting in a padded cell by now.

  • You can't jinx anything by buying a bigger dress - I think that would be the smart thing to do - it can always be made smaller, but rarely can it be made bigger!

  • At $40 would it be so bad to get 2 just in case?

  • I'm in my friend's wedding on June 20.  We just ordered the dresses last month.  If by chance I get KU, I guess we'll just have to order more fabric.  At most, with any luck, I'd only be about 6 months along.

    ?

this is exactly what i was going to suggest! for $40... buy two... one in current size, and one either larger - or just for extra fabric for a possible alteration... ?win/win situation...

    ?

i thought of that- but my dh said "buying 2 of the same dress would be ridiculous".  maybe my actually listening to him was ridiculous!

that is probably the best choice (to just buy 2).  then  i will have whatever extra material/bigger dress i will need, and a dress that fits me well.

    thanks!

  • just buy two and if you don't need the other one put it on ebay and you'll get your money back or most of it anyway.

  • I'd get the size that fits, b/c if you get ku soon, by september you'd be in the third trimester and possibly quite large - I don't think a larger size nonmaternity dress would look good or fit comfortably. If you have a big belly at that point, I'd think about convincing the bride you need a complementing maternity dress, which fits in the right places and actually looks right on you. Good luck!

  • I was in a wedding while TTC and ordered the dress too big and never got pg.  They took it in but it looked ridiculous.  They couldn't fix the boning in the boobs which was too big.  I was just in another wedding, the dress came in, fit perfectly, then I found out I was pg.  I was aroun 15 weeks at the wedding.  I had to have 2, 2 inch panels put in the back and it was so easy and you couldn't tell at all.  I didn't even have to order extra material b/c when they hemmed it, there was plenty.  I wouldn't go too big if I were you.
