When did you find out sex(es)?

We have a MFM appointment coming up when I'll be 13w4d, and mostly I'm just hoping everything is fine with the twins, but a part of me is wondering if they'll have some kind of fancy ultrasound machine that might be able to tell us the sexes. We have a regular obgyn appointment at 14w4d and again at 16 weeks.. So I'm sure we will find out in the next six weeks or so but you know how it goes.. I'm totally curious.

If you didn't learn from a blood test, with your baby or babies, if you already know, when did you know? When could you first tell on ultrasound? Was it earlier with twins?

I was given a preliminary guess (which turned out to be accurate) at my MFM appt at 12w6d for my NT ultrasound, which was only possible because 1) he's a boy and 2) he's apparently an exhibitionist.  Because of swollen genitals in both sexes, everything I've read and been told indicates that the earliest that a definitive determination can be made from an ultrasound is 15w, but usually it's at the AS at 20w.

My anatomy scan at 20 weeks. That said, I didn't have an ultrasound between 9 weeks and 20 weeks so not sure if I did, they would have been able to tell me sooner.

Usually you find out around 20 weeks unless you do genetic testing. You won't have a u/s at every OB appt. My anatomy scan is sched at 18 weeks 3 days but I've had friends have to wait until 21 weeks.

For my twins, we found out at 18w4d, at our AS at the MFM.  We had not had a scan since the 12 week scan though.

We were told at our last RE appt it was a girl at 13w2d and last week at 18w5d it was clearly a boy!

Nobody would guess for us. We found out at 19 weeks at our anatomy scan that we were having girls. We had several ultrasounds in the weeks before the anatomy scan and each time I thought they would at least guess but nope!

I think every pregnancy book I have read said boys and girls look the same until after 14/15 weeks. A tech can guess and they have a 50% shot at being right. Lol

I had a NT scan and never asked for the sex since I figured it was to early so I found out at 18 weeks at the A/S.

Twins can be difficult since they maneuver in funky positions sometimes! I had my NT scan at 12 weeks, they didn't even attempt to tell. My a/s wasn't until 20 weeks but I am way to impatient for that so I scheduled an elective around about 16 weeks. We took the family and made a big event of it, it was a lot of fun

The genetics team wouldn't let us do a blood test since they said the twins can mask each other. If we had though, we would have been able to find out they were two girls since there were no Y chromosomes. But if they did find a Y, we wouldn't have known if it was 1 boy or 2!

With you having twins expect to have an u/s frequently. I get them at every appt (which was every 4 weeks until about 26 weeks when it changed to 2x/month plus a growth scan u/s). You get to see the babies quite a bit, but the OB u/s are pretty much just a quick check. The growth scans look at much more.

I know the curiosity must be killing you! For us we found out at 18w5d. I had to beg the tech to get our appt a little earlier haha because we had family in from out of town and were doing a big Labor Day BBQ and a gender reveal combo. She didn't mind because it was only the matter of a couple days - she likes to do the scan closest to 19w as possible since she said it gives the best views of the heart chambers. I know it is a tough wait - but maybe work on planning something special either with your husband family and/or friends in order to make it a big surprise. The planning might take your mind off of it a bit. Good luck and best wishes!!

They can definitely tell by 12 weeks or so (my friend found out at her NT scan ~12w with her last son), but since it's still early a lot of MFM places won't tell you even if they do have a guess.  My friend when to the ultrasound person at her midwife office, so they told her.  It's probably a liability thing for the MFM clinics or something.

At 12 weeks, we had an u/s, but the OB said it was way too early to be able to tell.  So we found out at our a/s, which was at 17w,6d.
